Quick Hits: June 8, 2023

1) Flyers alum goaltender Mike McKenna has an interesting take on Carter Hart today on Daily Faceoff. McKenna and Hart were briefly Flyers teammates during Hart's rookie season (2018-19). Ever since, McKenna has kept a close eye of Hart's career. McKenna is of the opinion that the player has, in reality, outperformed his statistics over the past two seasons when healthy, and the real issue is that the team defense in front of him has been lackluster. He also shares an anecdote of his time with the Flyers regarding Hart. It's worth the read: Click here.

2) The American Hockey League added a new after-season award this season: the Top Prospects Team. The honorees for the 2022-23 season:

Goaltender Jesper Wallstedt, Iowa Wild (Minnesota Wild)
Defenseman David Jiricek, Cleveland Monsters (Columbus Blue Jackets)
Defenseman Simon Nemec, Utica Comets (New Jersey Devils)
Forward Tyson Foerster, Lehigh Valley Phantoms (FLYERS)
Forward Jiri Kulich, Rochester Americans (Buffalo Sabres)
Forward Lukas Reichel, Rockford IceHogs (Chicago Blackhawks)

A full article is forthcoming today on PhiladelphiaFlyers.com.

3) Earlier this week, the Flyers Alumni and the Flyers Warriors dedicated the newly renovated library and multi-media center at the Joseph Pennell Elementary School in North Philadelphia. The Alumni donated the materials and the Flyers Warriors did the physical labor to install new flooring, fresh paint, furniture, shelving stocked with books, a Smart Board and a "learning tree mural" to thoroughly revitalize the school's old library and turn into a well-equipped and welcoming space. It's a pretty cool story about the Alumni, the Warriors, and the school working together on behalf of the local community. To learn more, click here.

4) Today in Flyers History: June 8, 1983

Over the course of the 1982-83 season, rugged and offensive-minded defenseman Behn Wilson fell out of favor with head coach Bob McCammon. The 23-year-old former All-Star blueliner dealt with injuries and inconsistency for a second straight season.

McCammon became the Flyers' general manager on May 27, 1983. He wasted little time moving Wilson to another team. On June 8, the Flyers traded Wilson to the Chicago Blackhawks for another talented but enigmatic young defenseman, Doug Crossman. The Flyers also obtained a 1984 second-round draft pick, which they ultimately used on the selection of power forward Scott Mellanby.
