The San Jose Sharks will select fourth overall in this year’s draft, as determined by tonight’s NHL Draft Lottery.

It marks the Sharks’ highest selection in 25 years, since taking Brad Stuart third overall in 1998. Selecting ahead of San Jose will be the Chicago Blackhawks with the first-overall pick, the Anaheim Ducks selecting second, and the Columbus Blue Jackets selecting third.

We know Connor Bedard will almost certainly be headed to Chicago, and even if Anaheim were to pass on Adam Fantilli, it’s extremely unlikely he falls to fourth overall. However, the Sharks are guaranteed to have one of Leo Carlsson or Matvei Michkov available by the time they select (though Michkov remains locked into a KHL contract until 2026). But based on the top of the draft class, selecting a forward seems likely.

The first round of the NHL Draft will take place on June 28.
