Well, Habs fans, tonight’s the night! A lottery win tonight could make the last two miserable seasons look completely worth it and speed up the rebuild considerably. The Canadiens were lucky to win last season, they spoke first and opted for Juraj Slafkovsky, but with all due respect to the big Slovak, he’s not a generational talent, Bedard is.

To those tempted to say that the Habs won the lottery last year and it’s someone else’s turn to strike gold, I’d like to say that the Panthers won it twice in a row in 1995 and 1996 and Edmonton 3 years in a row in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 4 times in 6 years winning the jackpot again in 2015 to select Connor McDavid.

Whatever happens tonight though, you can be sure that conspiracy theories will soon follow the result, no matter who wins. I watched today’s Buzzcast and was shocked to ear Mike Augello say that as long as I’m unhappy, he’s happy towards the end of the broadcast… I guess the Habs-Leafs rivalry is alive and well on Hockeybuzz!

I’ll admit that I’m looking forward to knowing which spot the Canadiens’ get though, that will at least allow us to look at the prospects likely to still be available when their turn comes. While Bedard has got the top spot wrapped up and Hobey Baker winner Adam Fantilli seems like a safe bet at number two, there are several candidates for the rest of the top 5 picks…

Tune in to Sportsnet tonight at 8:00 PM ET to watch the lottery live, who knows, tonight might just be the night the hockey gods or the Forum’s ghosts step up for the Canadiens, never say never.
