There is little doubt that Darryl Sutter’s job is very much hanging in the balance right now….and perhaps never more so obviously, then after last night’s thrashing/devastating loss to Sutter’s former team…the Kings.
Much of what has happened with the Flames this year was somewhat beyond his control. Losing their top 2 forwards in the offseason, and seeing a once steady Marksrom struggle so badly yo to stop pucks is heard to coach around…This has left the once intriguing, difficulty-to-play-against Flames appearing unorganized and disoriented…
It is of course Sutter’s job to figure out work arounds and motivate this group. They are more than talented enough to be a playoff team. That much is clear. At times it has been very clear when they go on some runs and play the kind of hockey they are capable of. But the inconsistency has been absolutely killing them.
The question is always is it the coach or the players?
