We are only a days away from the sweepstakes of the decade….
Connor Bedard is a special talent. All signs point to the kid being the rare generational superstar….the category that some would debate only has Gretzky, Lemieux, Crosby, Ovechkin, and McDavid. History shows us it’s important where this kind of player plays. Gretzky in LA was arguable the most eventful of these players playing when it comes to future ramifications….
An argument can be made that the NHL has had bad luck when it comes to where these players land. Pittsburgh has benefitted greatly of course and the Penguins franchise is incredibly solid as a result. Edmonton as well.. The Capitals have definitely jumped in popularity due to Ovechkin…people like me, who used to drive to the old Cap Center, to see them play to a half empty house, know the difference…
Denver failed at hockey once, but Forsberg, Sakic, Roy, and now MacKinnon have made this town very solid when it come to attendance…
But a star in a major market….like Gretzky in LA…could be truly game changing.
So when it comes to Bedard….there is a debate.. Better for the league if he is plays for a franchise like Montreal, Chicago or Philadelphia….. but places like Columbus, Arizona and San Jose could really use suck a player to make their market more major…
