To me one of the more interesting aspect of the trade deadline has always been the trades that don’t happen but give you clues as to where teams are looking as we head into the summer. We aren’t that far away from the whole season end the way the salary cap works now you have to plan way ahead.

One rumor that came, out sort of in the middle of the day on Friday, was The idea that the St. Louis Blues could send Colton Parayko and two first round picks to San Jose for Erik Karlsson. There were some other small parts of the deal but the gist of it was that. It didn’t have to happen on Friday, for either team, but I think there’s a general appetite by the Blues to use some of their assets that they’ve acquired to get Karlsson and continue not to rebuild, but rather retool.

To me this kind of trade makes a lot of sense. Colton Parayko has had a very down year but still contains a lot of talent, the two first round draft picks will be great assets for the sharks to grab and by putting Eric Carlson into the blues lineup they immediately put themselves back in the playoff picture next year. So my question to you is this…

Do you like this deal?
