After 8 starts in a row, Samuel Montembeault will get some well-deserved rest tonight as Jake Allen is all healed up and ready to reintegrate the line-up. Yesterday, Allen went out of his way to praise Montembeault and say how pleased he is to watch him succeed. There’s no denying how much of a great teammate Allen is and when he signed his last contract extension, he stated that he knew he wasn’t going to be in net when the Canadiens are done rebuilding but that he was going to take pride in being part of the said rebuild. There’s healthy competition between the masked men and if Montembeault ends up with the lion’s share of the work, Allen certainly won’t be making waves.

In his pregame media availability, St-Louis confirmed that the Habs would be sticking with the 11-7 formation for now, even though it may be a bit more tricky for assistant coach and defenseman coach Stéphane Robidas. Laughingly the bench boss added: “When he’s really used to it, we’ll go back to 12-6”. In a more serious manner, he mentioned that they'll probably go back to a more traditional formation once more forwards are healthy but that for now, the situation allowed them to maximize the emphasis on growth and development, since they could dress more of their young blueliners. After sitting out the last few games, Chris Wideman will be back in the line-up tonight and Jonathan Kovacevic will be making way.

For the 6th time this season, the Canadiens will be wearing their powder blue retro reverse jersey or, as some have started calling them, their tank tops. Every game played in blue this year has been a tough one and the Habs will be hoping for a reversal of fortune. After facing a pair of top of the standings team, the Canadiens will have to find a way to bring the same energy and effort level to this match-up with the Wings who are currently 6th in the Atlantic decision and 12 points out of the playoff picture.
