Here’s the good news. Berggren got his 1st NHL goal. Rasmussen got a nice tally using his size and strength. The Wings outshot Anaheim in 3 of 4 (because of OT) periods. Bertuzzi is back on the ice and played 18:39, registering 3 shots and 2 hits.
Here’s the bad news, a 4 game skid capped off by the lowest ranked team in the league. To make this trip a .500, Wings have to get 2 points against San Jose where Karlsson leads in goals (10), points (24) and TOI. Those are ridiculous numbers for 16 games played by a Dman, but it’s fueling the fire of trade talk for all the rumor mills.
Giving up the tying goal with 47 seconds to go is a gut buster. 2 of the 4 losses recently are OT losses, so they didn’t walk away with nothing. Still, this is another game where Detroit let’s a win slip away. This is still the rebuild, but that loss was a bit more frustrating.
Thanksgiving is a week away and that is a major measuring stick for the talking heads. At this point, 4 Atlantic teams have playoff spots. Boston, Toronto, Tampa Bay, Florida. Wings are 1 point out behind NYR, but Washington has had a loaded IR list and can go on a tear, and Pittsburgh seems to be able to go on a run at times. In the Atlantic, Detroit is ahead of Montreal, Buffalo and Ottawa and behind the aforementioned playoff teams. The gut feeling is another non playoff year. I hope I’m wrong.
This is still a team that needs upgrades in every area. Vrana’s return could do a lot as he seems to score every time he comes back. I don’t know how Yzerman is going to play this year out. This is his team, his coach (no, he didn’t draft or trade for everyone on the roster but has extended and decided to keep them).
At this point, we just have to wait and see what (if any) changes will come as Detroit enters the Shark Tank. A 5th straight loss would not be a great step in the right direction.
