Your Turn: Predict the Sabres Draft

In advance of the 2022 NHL Entry Draft which begins this Thursday, July 7, from the Centre Bell in Montreal, QC, here’s a chance to prove your prognostication skills by submitting Nostradamus-like predictions of what – exactly – the Buffalo Sabres will do in the first round.

The Sabres, of course, have three first-round selections in this year’s draft. They have their own first-round pick at 9, they have the Vegas Golden Knights’ first-round pick at number 16, and they have the Florida Panthers’ selection at number 28.

The Sabres could do any number of things with those picks. They could trade up, they could trade down, they could trade for players, or they could stand pat and make the choices where they stand. So here are the rules for the competition, starting with the prizes.

The person who makes the most correct guesses first will win a Buffalo Sabres sticker. Kinda lame, admittedly, but it’s about the bragging rights, really, isn’t it? Also, there is a better prize: Should someone get all three guesses correct, they will win a Dominik Hasek bobblehead which was given out during the final home game of the 2017-18 season. In the unlikely event that two people get the same three guesses correct, the first person to correctly guess the three answers will receive the Hasek prize and the second contestant to submit the correct answers will receive the lesser sticker prize. Also, I hate to do this, but all prizes apply only to the continental U.S. because mailing things overseas gets pretty pricey. But hey, if you happen to visit the States at some point, I'll buy you a beer and hand over the prize in person.

All entrants will have their guesses posted in Thursday’s blog ahead of the draft. Submissions can be made either in the blog or via private message.

The three rules are as follow:

1.) - Entrants must submit predictions by 8 pm on Wednesday, July 6.

2.) - Entrants must make one prediction regarding the outcome of each individual, first-round pick, for three (3) predictions in total

3.) - Those three predictions must either involve the selection of a 2022 draft-eligible prospect, or include the correct details of a trade involving the pick.

And because it’s inevitable that someone will point out a weird loophole involving the vagaries of these three rules in order to win the competition, if someone finds that weird loophole outside of the spirit of the competition, it will be at my discretion to award the prize to the person who best exemplifies the spirit of the contest.

Predictions submitted before 8 P.M. on Wednesday, July 6 will be included in a blog which will be published on Thursday in advance of the draft. In keeping with the spirit of the competition, it feels only fair that I submit my guesses as to what will happen:

9.) Jonathan Lekkerimäki

16.) Brad Lambert

28.) Ivan Miroshnichenko

If you win, you can PM me your details and I’ll mail the prize out. Best of luck, and as always, may the odds be ever in your favor.
