Comeback Win Allows Rocket to Tie Series |

After winning the last game in commanding fashion, the Thunderbirds came out strong and took an early 2-0 lead before the 8-minute mark of the first frame. The Rocket could have packed it in but no, at the risk of stealing the New York Rangers line, there’s no quit in that team. Jean-Sebastien Dea got a timely goal on a power play a second before the end of the first which gave his team a boost of both energy and confidence.
Then, in the opening minutes of the 2nd, Cedric Paquette tied things up to send everyone back to square one. With the score tied, Cayden Primeau shone brightly making several solid saves including one on a breakaway against Will Bitten, a former Habs prospect who’s been an absolute poison for the Rocket in this series. Paquette could have gone from hero to zero when he got a penalty late in the third, but his teammates bailed him out and off to OT they went.
Thankfully, the suspense didn’t last long in the extra frame, after just 4 minutes, Belzile passed the puck to Niku who fed Harvey-Pinard in front of the net and “Lavallagher” protected the puck well, gave himself some room and an angle and beat goaltender Joel Hoffer to give Laval the win. Of course, the Place Bell erupted, and the Rocket players celebrated loudly, but they did so right by the tunnel the Thunderbirds had to use to go back to the locker room.
Result? Some rough stuff including goaltender Hoffer spearing a Laval player and getting a 5-minute major and a game misconduct. Apparently, something Belzile said set him off, but whatever the reason, it remains a suspendable offense and it’s possible Hoffer could be suspended for tonight’s game 5. This would be a huge break for the Rocket since Springfield’s goaltender has got a 1.80 GAA and a .955 SP in these playoffs.
It should be noted that Joshua Roy was a healthy scratch for Laval as Gabriel Bourque was back from injury and Jean-François Houle had decided to bring Devante Smith-Pelly back in the line-up as well, given the fact that Springfield is a big team playing a robust style. Gianni Fairbrother was also dressed for the first time this postseason and ended his night with a +2 rating.
Meanwhile, in the OHL, Jan Mysak scored the game-winning goal which allowed the Hamilton Bulldogs to tie up their series with the Windsor Spitfires 2-2. It was a good night for Mysak who also got the primary assist on Logan Morrisson’s goal, although he was probably trying to score, who got the secondary assist? Habs’ D-prospect Arber Xheka.

Le Rocket aurait pu baisser les bas mais non, il n’a pas abandonné. Jean-Sebastien Dea a marqué un but qui tombait à point en avantage numérique dans la dernière seconde du premier vingt qui a donné une infusion de confiance et d’énergie.
Puis, dans les premières minutes du deuxième engagement, Cedric Paquette a nivelé la marque pour renvoyer tout le monde à la case départ. Avec un score de 2 partout, Cayden Primeau a encore une fois brillé effectuant de gros arrêts incluant un sur un échappé de l’ancien espoir du CH Will Bitten qui a été un vrai poison dans cette série. Paquette aurait pu passer de héros à zéro en fin de match en écopant d’une punition, mais ses coéquipiers lui ont rendu un fier service en écoulant sa punition pour atteindre la prolongation.
Heureusement, le suspense n’aura été que de courte durée en temps supplémentaire puisqu’après tout juste 4 minutes, Belzile a passé la rondelle à Niku qui a ensuite alimenté Harvey-Pinard devant le filet. “Lavallagher” a bien protégé la rondelle, s’est donné de l’espace et un angle et a décoché un tir qui a eu raison de Joel Hoffer pour donner la victoire au Rocket. Bien sûr, la Place Bell a explosé de joie et les joueurs du Rocket ont célébré sans gêne, mais ils l’ont fait juste à côté du tunnel que les Thunderbirds devait emprunter pour retourner au vestiaire.
Résultat ? Une mêlée générale incluant un incident de dardage courtoisie du gardien Hoffer qui s’est mérité une punition majeure de 5 minutes et une inconduite de partie. Apparemment, c’est quelque chose qu’Alex Belzile aurait dit qui lui aurait fait perdre la tête, mais quel que soit la raison, ça demeure une infraction sanctionnable par une suspension, c’est donc possible qu’il ne soit pas du 5e match ce soir. Voilà qui ferait très certainement l’affaire du Rocket puisque le gardien du Springfield a été fumant en séries avec une moyenne de but alloué de 1.80 et un pourcentage d’arrêt de .955.
Ça vaut la peine de noter que Joshua Roy avait été rayé de l’alignement vu le retour de Gabriel Bourque dans la formation et que Jean-François Houle avait décidé d’y aller avec plus de robustesse considérant le style de jeu des Thunderbirds, réintégrant Devante Smith-Pelly à sa formation. Gianni Fairbrother a également dispute son premier match des séries et a terminé son match avec une fiche de +2.
Pendant ce temps, dans la LOH, Jan Mysak a marqué le but gagnant qui a permis aux Bulldogs d’Hamilton de créer l’égalité 2-2 dans leur série contre les Spitfires de Windsor. Ce fu tune bonne soirée pour Mysak qui a également reçu une mention d’aide sur le but de Logan Morrisson, même s’il tentait peut-être de lancer, et qui a reçu la deuxième mention d’aide ? L’espoir en défense du CH, Arber Xheka.
