Plenty of people were watching last night to see Joshua Roy’s professional debut as Gabriel Bourque’s injury allowed him to slot into the line-up, but the public couldn’t see as much of Roy as they would have liked as the Rocket spent a lot of time on the penalty kill. Things started well for Laval when Rafael Harvey-Pinard buried a one-timer to open the score, but from that point on, Springfield took charge and outworked Houle’s men, forcing them to take numerous penalties.
Even though he allowed 6 goals, Cayden Primeau had a very good game, making 37 saves and being particularly efficient in the 2nd frame as the Rocket had to kill 4 penalties and ended up playing 3 on 5 for a long time. As for Roy, even with limited time on ice, he did showcase some of the skills that made him so successful in the QJMHL this season including a beautiful toe-drag that resulted in a scoring chance which was neutralized by the Thunderbirds’ goaltender. After the game, Roy said that the game was much faster and that there was hardly any space available compared to junior hockey, but he didn’t look out of place at all in this hard-fought physical battle which is encouraging.
This morning, it was announced that the Blackhawks had asked permission to interview Luke Richardson for their head-coach position. Of course, permission was granted, you cannot stop the man from moving on and getting something, he has longed for for a long time. To be honest, if one of the assistant-coach had to go, Richardson wouldn’t be my choice but that’s exactly why he’s the one who’s likely to go. At times in the last few years, he’s looked like a proud dad working with youngster Alexander Romanov and there’s no doubt he’d have lot of wisdom to pass on to the likes of Harris, Barron and Guhle. Should he go, he will of course have to be replaced. Who by? TSN 690 is suggesting Larry Robinson but at 71, I’m not sure Robinson would be up to the challenge…time to give Andrei Markov a call perhaps? He was a great puck-mover and rarely took bad decisions on the ice…
Beaucoup de fans regardait le match d’hier soir afin de voir les débuts professionnels de Joshua Roy qui avait été inséré dans l’alignement vu l’impossibilité de jouer de Gabriel Bourque, mais ils n’ont pas pu voir Roy autant qu’ils l’auraient souhaité puisque le Rocket a passé beaucoup de temps en désavantage numérique. Les choses avaient pourtant bien commencé pour Laval alors que Rafael Harvey-Bouchard avait ouvert la marque avec un lancer sur réception mais à partir de ce moment-là, Springfield a pris le contrôle et a eu le meilleur sur les hommes de Jean-François Houle, les forçant à prendre de nombreuses punitions.
Même s’il a accordé 6 buts, Cayden Primeau a connu une autre bonne sortie, stoppant 37 tirs et étant particulièrement efficace en 2e période alors que le Rocket se défendait à court d’un ou deux hommes. Quant à Roy, même avec un temps de jeu limité, il a pu montrer certaines des habilités qui lui ont permis de connaître du succès dans la LHJMQ cette saison incluant une superbe manœuvre pour éviter un défenseur couché de tout son long qui a résulté en une chance de marquée neutralisée par le gardien des Thunderbirds. Après le match, Roy a dit que le jeu était très rapide et qu’il y avait moins d’espace sur la glace compare au junior, mais il n’a pas eu l’air perdu sur la patinoire dans ce match intense et physique, ce qui est encourageant.
Ce matin, nous avons appris que les Blackhawks de Chicago ont demandé la permission d’interviewé Luke Richardson pour la position d’entraîneur-chef. Bien sûr, la permission a été accordée, on ne peut empêcher un entraîneur de progresser et d’obtenir le type d’opportunité qu’il a souhaité avoir pendant tellement longtemps. Pour être honnête, si l’un des assistants-entraîneurs devaient partir, ce n’est pas Richardson qui serait mon choix et c’est justement pour ça qu’il est le plus susceptible de partir. Au cours des dernières saisons, il a souvent eu l’air d’un père fier de son protégé avec Alexander Romanov et il ne fait aucun doute qu’il aurait bien des choses à apprendre aux Harris, Barron et Guhle. S’il part, il devra bien sûr être remplacé, par qui? TSN 690 a déjà commencé à suggérer Larry Robinson, mais à 71 ans, je ne suis pas certaine que Big Bird serait partant… serait-ce le temps de donner un coup de fil à Andrei Markov? Il pouvait très certainement bouger la rondelle et prenait rarement de mauvaises décisions sur la glace…
