The San Jose Sharks announced yesterday that they’ve signed defenseman Gannon Laroque to a three-year, entry-level contract.

Laroque is 18 years old and was selected by the Sharks in the fourth round of last year’s NHL Draft. He produced at a great rate with the WHL’s Victoria Royals this season, scoring 10 goals and 52 points in 63 games.

The deal carries a $867,500 cap hit, according to CapFriendly. Laroque still has another year of CHL eligibility remaining, meaning he should return to the WHL next season.
