It was a tough year in Montreal for many reasons; a truckload of injuries, important players missing the whole season and young players being thrown in the deep end without being ready. As they say, when that happens it’s either sink or swim and unfortunately for Cayden Primeau, he sunk pulled down by the abysmal performances of the whole team. By the time Martin St-Louis was brought on, the young netminder looked like he had no confidence left at all and mercifully, the team was able to send him back down to Laval for a while, until Jake Allen was once again injured. Primeau then rode the pine with the Habs until Carey Price finally came back for a few games and left again. Once the NHL season finally ended, Primeau came back to the Rocket and eventually claimed back the number 1 spot.
If the Rocket’s first win of the 3rd round was the result of Danick Martel’s 4 goals, its 2nd win was signed Cayden Primeau. He’s been great since the start of the postseason and the fans in Laval are 100% behind the new CP31. No, I’m not saying he’s as good as Carey Price only that they’ve got the same initials and numbers and that right now, he’s being as important to his team’s success as Price once was. Primeau was particularly impressive when Laval was shorthanded in the dying minutes of the second frame, multiplying the spectacular saves and keeping the door firmly shut. In the end, the Rocket won 3-1 and now only needs one more win to move on to the conference final.
After this game in which he saved 31 of the 32 shots he received, Primeau now has a goal against average of 1.65 and a save percentage of .949. Kent Hughes said not so long ago that none of the keepers in the organization had shown him that they could be a consistent number one in the NHL, but if Primeau keeps going this way, he might soon be ready for prime time and no one will complain in the Canadiens’ fold especially since Price’s health is still a huge question mark.
Meanwhile in the NHL, Ben Chiarot and the Florida Panthers were swept by Corey Perry’s Tampa Bay Lightning last night and the defending champs march on in their quest for a “three-peat”. Other former Habs remain in contention though, Arturri Lehkonen and the Avalanche are leading their series 3-1 on the Blues, Tyler Toffoli’s Flames are still alive even though they are trailing the Brett Kulak’s Oilers 2-1 while Domi and Kotkaniemi’s Canes are leading the Rangers 2-1.

Quand cela se produit, soit tu nages ou tu coules et malheureusement pour Cayden Primeau, il a coulé, étant solidement tiré vers les bas-fonds par le jeu affreux de l’ensemble de l’équipe. Quand Martin St-Louis est arrivé dans l’entourage de l’équipe, le jeune gardien semblait complétement anéanti, il n’avait plus aucune confiance. Heureusement, l’équipe a pu le renvoyer à Laval pour un temps quand Jake Allen est revenu au jeu, mais ce fut de courte durée. Primeau s’est par la suite contenté de réchauffé le banc jusqu’à ce que Carey Price soit prêt à revenir, lui aussi momentanément. Quand la saison de la LNH s’est enfin terminé, Primeau est revenu avec le Rocket et a finalement récupéré son poste de numéro un pendant les séries.
Si la première victoire du Rocket en 3e ronde était grâce aux 4 buts de Danick Martel, sa deuxième victoire a été signé Cayden Primeau. Il a été très bon depuis le début des séries et les fans de Laval sont à 100% derrière le nouveau CP31. Non, je ne dis pas qu’il est aussi boin que Carey Price l’a déjà été, seulement qu’ils ont les mêmes initiales, le même numéro et que présentement, il est aussi important pour son équipe que Price le fut jadis. Primeau a été particulièrement impressionnant en fin de 2e période alors que le Rocket était en désavantage numérique, multipliant les arrêts spectaculaires et gardant la porte fermée. Au final, le Rocket l’a emporté 3-1 et n’a maintenant besoin que d’une seule victoire pour atteindre la finale de conférence.
Après le match d’hier dans lequel il a arrêté 31 des 32 lancers dirigés vers lui, Primeau a une moyenne de buts alloués de 1.65 et un pourcentage d’arrêts de .949. Kent Hughes a dit il n’y a pas si longtemps qu’aucun des gardiens de l’organisation ne lui avait montré qu’il pouvait être un numéro un dans le circuit Bettman de manière constante, mais si Primeau maintient le cap, peut-être sera-t-il prêt pour le « Prime Time » plus tôt que tard. Personne dans l’entourage du CH ne s’en plaindra, surtout pas considérant l’incertitude entourant l’état de santé de Carey Price.
Pendant ce temps dans la LNH, Ben Chiarot et ses Panthers de la Floride ont été balayés par les champions en titre qui tente de remporter une troisième Coupe Stanley d’affilée, cette fois ci avec Corey Perry dans leurs rangs. Quelques anciens Canadiens demeurent toutefois dans la course, Arturri Lehkonen et l’Avalanche du Colorado mène 3-1 sur les Blues, Tyler Toffoli et les Flames sont toujours en vie même s’ils tirent de l’arrière 2-1 face aux Oilers de Brett Kulak alors que Domi et Kotkaniemi mène les Rangers 2-1.
