1) Flyers defenseman Travis Sanheim scored Team Canada's first goal in a 6-1 victory over Italy on Saturday in preliminary round action at the 2022 IIHF World Championship in Finland. Team Canada trailed early, 1-0, before Sanheim tied the score with a point shot that found the net at 15:50 of the first period. Overall, Sanheim had three shots on goal and skated 17:54 across 19 shifts.

2) Kelly Cup Playoffs: The Reading Royals dropped Game 6 of their North Division Final series, 6-4, to the Newfoundland Growlers on Saturday evening at Santander Arena. The series will now go to a seventh and deciding game in Reading on Monday. The Royals had led the series, three games to one, before dropping each of the last two games.

Pat Nagle took the loss in goal for Reading. Flyers defense prospect Mason Millman recorded one assist in Game 6.

3) OHL Playoffs: The Kingston Frontenacs have been eliminated from the Ontario Hockey League playoffs following a 6-5 road loss to the North Bay Battalion on Saturday in Game 5 of their second-round playoff series. In the final game of his junior hockey career, Flyers prospect Zayde Wisdom had one shot on goal. He finished the playoffs with 15 points (4g, 11a) in 11 playoff games. The power forward, who is fully recovered from Aug. 2021 shoulder surgery that limited him 43 regular season games in 2021-22, is likely to rejoin the AHL's Lehigh Valley Phantoms next season. Wisdom will turn 20 on July 7.

4) WHL Playoffs: The Winnipeg Ice will play the Edmonton Oil Kings in the Eastern Conference Final. The series will open next Friday (May 20) in Winnipeg with Game Two being played the next day. Flyers prospect Connor McClennon is tied for 9th in playoff scoring to date with 14 points (6g, 8a) in 14 playoff games played to date this spring.

5) QMJHL President's Cup Playoffs: The Halifax Mooseheads have been eliminated from the playoffs following a 2-1 loss on Friday to the Acadie-Bathurst Titan in the fifth and final game of their best-of-five series. The final game of Elliot Desnoyers' junior career did not go as hoped. He put three routine shots on goal and went just 2-for-11 on faceoffs. Desnoyers finished the series with nine points (1g, 8a) in five games. The 20-year-old forward, who can play either center or left wing, will turn pro next season.

In perhaps the most vital trade in franchise history, the Flyers reacquired the NHL rights of goaltender Bernie Parent from the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for a 1973 first-round draft pick (Bob Neely) and goaltender Doug Favell. Philadelphia also acquired a 1973 second-round pick (defenseman Larry "Izzy" Goodenough) in the trade.

Parent, of course, went on to win back-to-back Vezina and Conn Smythe Trophies, backstopping the Flyers to the Stanley Cup in 1973-74 and 1974-75. On the same day the organization brought back Parent, the Flyers also traded defenseman Rick Foley to the Detroit Red Wings for Serje Lajeunesse.

The single most important player in franchise history Hall of Fame center and longtime captain Clarke announced his retirement as a player at age 34. Upon his retirement, Clarke was simultaneously introduced as the fourth general manager in franchise history, succeeding dismissed GM/head coach Bob McCammon,
