While Nick Suzuki, Carey Price, Brendan Gallagher and Cole Caufield all needed to either heal or rest, some other Montreal Canadiens gladly accepted to go to Finland to help their country capture the title.
Josh Anderson will be among those rocking the maple leaf tomorrow when Canada kicks off its tournament against Germany. Today, he was also named an alternate captain alongside Pierre-Luc Dubois, Adam Lowry and Damon Severson while Thomas Chabot will be wearing the C.
Meanwhile, prospect Sean Farrell and defenseman Jordan Harris will be representing our neighbours to the south when the USA take on Latvia tomorrow in its first match-up of the preliminary round.
As for Finland, Joel Armia will be putting on his skates again after taking a leave of absence from the Habs to become a dad towards the end of the season. No disrespect to Armia, but I hope he impresses and someone, somewhere is tempted to take his 3-year, $3.4 M contract off the Canadiens…I know, I’m dreaming…but hey, the Canadiens won the lottery, anything can happen right?
If you see a Denmark game on the schedule, don’t be too fast to dismiss it as prospect Frederik Dichow may very well be manning the Danes’ net. While he’s committed to playing with Frolunda in Sweden for now, he’s just coming off a great season and there’s no doubt that Hugues and Gorton will be watching him closely.
On top of watching these Habs or Habs to be, you can also feast your eyes on some top-notch talent which will be available at the upcoming draft. If you catch a Czech Republic game, keep an eye out for David Jiricek, the right-handed defenseman is sure to generate a lot of interest at the draft just like a couple of Slovakian players; Simon Nemec and Juraj Slafkovsky.

Josh Anderson sera de ceux qui porteront la feuille d’érable quand le tournoi du Canada prendra son envol demain contre l’Allemagne. Aujourd’hui, il a été nommé assistant capitaine tout comme Pierre-Luc Dubois, Adam Lowry et Damon Severson et c’est Thomas Chabot qui portera le C.
Pendant ce temps, l’espoir Sean Farrell et le défenseur Jordan Harris représenteront nos voisins du sud quand les États-Unis croiseront le fer avec la Lettonie demain dans leur premier match du tournoi à la ronde.
Quant à la Finlande, elle pourra compter sur Joel Armia qui rechaussera les patins après avoir quitté le CH en fin de saison pour être auprès de sa femme qui allait accoucher. Sans vouloir manquer de respect à Armia, j’espère qu’il impressionnera et que quelqu’un, quelque part sera tenté de prendre son contrat de 3 ans avec un impact de 3.4 M sur la masse salariale… Je sais, je rêve… mais, le CH a gagné la loterie, tout peut arriver non?
Si vous voyez un match du Danemak à l’horaire, ne changez pas de poste trop rapidement, l’espoir Frederik Dichow pourrait fort bien être dans les filets pour les danois. Bien qu’on sache déjà qu’il s’alignera avec Frolunda en Suède pour la prochaine saison, il ne fait aucun doute que Gorton et Hughes l’observeront.
En plus de pouvoir voir ces Canadiens ou Canadiens en devenir à l’œuvre, vous pourrez aussi jeter un œil sur certains des meilleurs espoirs pour le prochain repêchage. Si vous tombez sur un match des Tchèques, gardez un œil sur le défenseur David Jiricek, le droitier devrait générer beaucoup d’intérêt lors de l’encan annuel, tout comme les slovaques Simon Nemec et Juraj Slafkovsky.
