Eric Staal has signed a PTO with the Iowa Wild in hopes of seeing where he is at in an effort to make the Canadian Olympic team for the Beijing Games coming up next month.

Staal will suit up for the Iowa Wild this weekend and let's hope the former Wild center can perform well enough to earn himself another trip to the Olympics to represent his native Canada.

Staal obviously would like to impress some NHL suitors in the process as well, in hopes of hooking on with a club for the stretch run and prolong his professional career.

I am not so sure that the Wild are all that interested in Staal as they clearly turned the page from the team and locker room that was here in Minnesota when Eric was last played for the Wild. That said he did have some solid play last season in Montreal's highly improbable run to the Stanley Cup Final.

WILD UPDATE: Joel Eriksson Ek is in Covid-19 protocol so his return tomorrow is not going to happen now.
