The Colorado Avalanche improved to 10-5-1 thanks to another big game from the offense. .

Colorado took care of a surprising Anaheim Ducks teams that is suddenly stumbling a bit. On the eve of Thanksgiving the Avs' stuffed the net behind John Gibson and dropped the Ducks 5-2 in front of a frenzied Ball Arena crowd. It was the fifth time in six games they scored five or more goals.

With the win the Avs' stretched their winning streak to a season-high six straight games, which is the longest active streak in the NHL.

Cale Makar, Alex Newhook, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, Nazem Kadri and Valeri Nichushkin all scored and Jonas Johansson picked up the win in relief of Darcy Kuemper and his wonky skates.

The victory is just the latest cherry on top of what is quickly turning into a historic run for the team and its offense. Colorado has outscored their opponents 36 to 15 in the last six game which ties a franchise record for the most goals in a six-game span.

Not too shabby for a team missing Nathan MacKinnon , J.T. Compher or Bo Byram.

Some nuggets to ponder...

- Cale Makar has six goals in the last four games and eight total for the season. He had eight all of last season in 30 more games. Oh yeah, he finished second in Norris voting too. The kid is on a very special pace thus far.

- Nazem Kadri continues to be white-hot. He had another two points (1g 1a) vs. Anaheim for 25 total (7g 18a) on the season. His point streak is now into the double-digits and he's growing more confident with every touch of the puck. Dude is legit right now.

- When Valeri Nichushkin plays in a game the Avs don't lose. Colorado improved to 7-0 with Val in the lineup. He picked up his fourth goal and seventh point of the season against the Ducks.

- The short stint with the Colorado Eagles has done Alex Newhook a whole lotta good. Since returning to the NHL lineup on Nov. 11, the rookie has five points (3g 2a) in six games and two if his three goals have been game winners.

- Colorado moved into fourth place in the Central division with 21 points. They trail first place Minnesota by three point but have three games in hand.

- With the the win, head coach Jared Bednar becomes the winning coach in Colorado Avalanche history with 194 victories, passing Bob Hartley.

- Lastly, file this in the Twilight Zone File: Darcy Kuemper left the game with another skate blade issue. He returned to the bench, but Johansson finished the rest of the game. BTW, this is the second game in a row with such an issue.

Following the Ducks game, it was confirmed that Kuemper would be switching to a different brand of blade holders for the rest of the season. Where's Rod Serling when you need him?

The Avs head to Dallas on Friday before returning home to host the Preds on Saturday.

Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for reading,
