The New York Islanders won one of three games last week and now have just eight games left in the regular season. Here’s a recap of news and notes.

ISLANDERS WIN ONE OF THREE GAMES

The Islanders won one of three games last week, defeating the New York Rangers 6-1 on Tuesday, before dropping two games to the Washington Capitals later in the week. The Islanders currently sit third in the East Division.

SHUTOUTS PILING UP

With Ilya Sorokin’s shutout against the Philadelphia Flyers last Sunday, the Islanders’ goaltending duo has now totalled eight shutouts this season. While Semyon Varlamov is tied for the most shutouts in the league, the Islanders as a team are also first in shutouts.

BOLDUC HAVING SUCCESS IN AHL

Defenseman Samuel Bolduc has continued his strong performance with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers this season. He has 12 points in 20 games, which is tied for the team lead and is certainly an impressive feat for a young defender on a struggling team.

As for our poll question this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: How do you feel about Kyle Palmieri’s play with the Islanders so far?

(Votes: 131)

Underwhelming start: 76%
Don’t feel strongly either way: 14%
So far, so good: 10%

While Palmieri wasn’t going to be expected to put up significant numbers with the Islanders, one goal and two points in nine games isn’t good enough. He’s not finishing his chances but his shots per game average is also down quite a bit since coming to New York.
