I’ll update with more info as it becomes available. Possible that someone is coming back in the lineup from injury.

Detroit had another disastrous period against Columbus yesterday. The second period completely derailed the team, and there was no coming back. I don’t believe that has anything to do with Filppula being waived. The likely scenarios are that someone is healthy and coming back on to the roster, or one of the young guys may have bumped Fil down the chart. The team is playing Carolina tomorrow, and it would be nice to finally see the Svechnikov brothers share the ice.

Filppula’s pro rated cap hit is about 1.7 million. If, and it’s a big if, there is a team that wants a depth player passing waivers would give any team the option to assign him to the Taxi Squad and bury most of the hit. If Yzerman eats a bit, the whole hit could be buried. I’m not sure who would be looking, but never say never
