One of two New York Islanders prospects competing at the World Junior Championship tournament will be leaving with a medal.

Defensemen Matias Rajaniemi earned a Bronze Medal, after Team Finland knocked off Russia for third place yesterday, by a score of 4-1.

Rajaniemi played in a depth role for Finland and went pointless in six games. He will be eligible to return for next year’s tournament as well.

Walking away empty handed, however, will be Simon Holmstrom. Despite tallying five points in five games, Holmstrom’s tournament ended when Sweden lost to Finland in the quarterfinals. Holmstrom won’t be eligible to play again in next year’s tournament.
