The San Jose Sharks signed a prospect to an entry-level contract and also began training camp this week. Here’s the weekly recap:

SHARKS SIGN TRISTEN ROBINS TO ELC

The Sharks signed prospect Tristen Robins to a three-year entry-level contract this week. Robins was selected by the Sharks with the 56th overall pick in the second round of this year's NHL draft.

SHARKS RELEASE TRAINING CAMP ROSTER AND BEGIN CAMP

The Sharks began training camp this week, with a roster which features 24 forwards, 13 defense and four goalies. Here’s the full roster:

FORWARDS: Lean Bergmann, Joachim Blichfeld, Sasha Chmelevski, Logan Couture, Ryan Donato, Kurtis Gabriel, Dylan Gambrell, Noah Gregor, Jayden Halbgewachs, Fredrik Handemark, Tomas Hertl, Evander Kane, Joel Kellman, Kevin Labanc, John Leonard, Maxim Letunov, Patrick Marleau, Timo Meier, Matt Nieto, Stefan Noesen, Marcus Sorensen, Antti Suomela, Alex True, Jeffrey Viel

WJC UPDATE

Three of San Jose’s four prospects at the World Juniors have advanced to the semifinals. Artemi Kniazev and Yegor Spiridonov (RUS) will face Canada, while Santeri Hatakka and Finland will take on the United States. Czech Republic was eliminated in the quarterfinals, meaning Adam Raska’s tournament is over. Here are the stats for each player:

Artemi Kniazev (RUS): 1G, 3A (5GP)
Santeri Hatakka (FIN): 1G, 1A (5GP)
Adam Raska (CZE): 0G, 1A (4GP)
Yegor Spiridonov (RUS): 0G, 0A (5GP)

As for our poll questions this week, here are the results, along with my thoughts on how they turned out:

QUESTION: What do you think Tristen Robins’ long-term role will be with the Sharks?

(Votes: 50)

Middle-six forward: 40%
Top-six forward: 22%
Bottom-six forward: 20%
Doesn’t make/stay in the NHL: 18%

It’s hard to project where Robins may play, considering he’s probably still a few years out from the NHL. I’m going to hold off on making a projection here until he makes the jump to the AHL but middle-six forward does seem like a good bet.

QUESTION: Will Jacob Middleton win a spot in the Sharks' lineup to start the 2020-21 season?

(Votes: 51)

No: 53%
Yes: 47%

Like this poll suggests, I think it’s a toss up. The Sharks have a spot remaining on their bottom pair to be won in camp and while Middleton may be the frontrunner, he’s far from a lock to make the team.

QUESTION: Should the Sharks have added more cheap free agents this offseason?

(Votes: 120)

Yes: 78%
No: 22%

As the original article suggests, I think the Sharks made a mistake by not capitalizing on the market. We saw several skilled free agents sign one-year deals at very low prices and the Sharks passed up a great opportunity to add more depth.
