Carolina Hurricanes prospect Vasiliy Ponomarev has been invited to Russia’s 2021 World Juniors selection camp.

Ponomarev was selected 53rd overall by the Hurricanes in this year’s NHL Draft and is currently in his second season with the QMJHL’s Shawinigan Cataractes. So far this year, Ponomarev has three goals and five points in six games.

He does still have another year of eligibility remaining to play in the World Juniors, so even if Ponomarev doesn’t make the team, he’d have another shot to do so next year. That said, with only 25 skaters invited to camp, he’ll certainly have a great chance to crack the roster for this year’s tournament.
