The New York Islanders have reportedly signed forward A.J. Greer to a one-year contract worth $700,000, according to CapFriendly.com.

Greer was acquired from the Colorado Avalanche on October 11, in exchange for defenseman Kyle Burroughs. Greer is only 23 years old and has played a total of 37 NHL games over three seasons, registering one goal and six points.

This past season, Greer managed 16 goals and 32 points in 47 games with the AHL’s Colorado Eagles and his AHL production was even higher in the 2018-19 season, where he scored 19 goals and 44 points in 54 games.

Greer also plays with an edge and he isn’t afraid to drop the gloves. He’s 6-foot-3 and weighs 210 pounds and managed nearly two penalty minutes per game in the 2019-20 season.

While he’s likely to spend at least a portion of the year in the AHL, Greer adds some depth to the prospect pool and considering he’s still relatively young and has played some NHL games, he could make his way into New York’s lineup at some point, especially if some contracts on the roster are moved.
