Unfortunately, I seem to have struck out
on my last post regarding Joel Edmundson. Most of you aren’t sold on the player, and it was a good chance to step away from the “stats” and hear from the fans. As always, I appreciate the candor and passion!
Back in June I posted an article regarding potential draft picks (before we knew the lottery results).
The second part of that series can be found with this link. I’ve kept a sheet with your potential picks. Take a look at what other fans have listed as their potential first round picks. I’ve removed picks regarding the first overall selection since Lafreniere is pretty much a consensus #1. I’ll leave in the 2 and 3 picks since, you never know.
Redc21 - Detroit picks 2/3 takes either Stutzle or Byfield. I’m leaving this up since you never know. Players can slide a little.
Sven22 - Lucas Raymond at 4
Lovemywings58 - Drysdale, Raymond, Askarov, Rossi
Gergeswillems - Byfield (not sure pick, likely 2) - we know its 4th now
Justarm216 - Stutzle and Drysdale after D trades 1 to Ott for 3 and 4 - obviously this one can’t happen, but I appreciated the creativity.
Kaptaan - Drysdale after trading 1 to Ott - didn’t get 1st pick, but Drysdale is still a possibility
Tee56 - Michael Vukojeic at 6 after trade - interesting thoughts on trading back
Honorable mention - Tag Bertuzzi Gergeswillems - Tag is an interesting case. His early career with Guelph was derailed a bit (his dad and cousin both played there). He was eligible in the 2019 draft but wasn’t picked up. Tag found his groove in Hamilton last season putting up 47 points (25G-22A) in 57 games. Unlike father Todd and cousin Tyler, Tag is listed as a center. His frame is similar to Todd’s, and he does good work in the corners. Listed at 6’1” and 199lbs. Not sure where he will get picked, but there’s a lot of potential and a chance to pick up a player whose draft stock fell a bit.
So, take a look at everything and let me know where you’re at on Detroit’s first round pick. It’s wide open, and Yzerman threw a decent curve ball last year. Whatever the pick, a very good player is going to be available at 4th.
