Wild Make Additions to Coaching Staff

The Wild made a couple coaching decisions announcing that Frédéric Chabot has been named goaltending coach while Brett McLean has been added as an assistant on Dean Evason's staff. Darby Hendrickson and Bob Woods had their contracts extended.

The obvious change here will be Chabot and how he works with the Wild goalies coming off a very difficult season. Former goaltender coach, Bob Mason, was relieved of his duties following the season. Now the big question is who will Chabot be working with come the new season. Will it be the familiar duo of Devan Dubnyk and Alex Stalock that took a step backward this past season, or will Kaapo Kahkonen get his well deserved shot at the big club, or does Guerin bring in a goalie through trade or free agency?

That question will be answered over the next few months as Guerin is hard at work looking to make his team better.

Yesterday's trade between the Penguins and Maple Leafs sets the stage for other deals to follow. Guerin did his due diligence in this as he was contacted about Kapanen's availability and the price was not right and nothing materialized.

Kapanen is a speedy winger and has some big game ability, but when it comes down to it he does not check one of the boxes where the Wild have real need. Center is the main objective and if Guerin is to make a move he has that as his ultimate desire.

The free agent pool is not very deep with two former Wild forwards heading the list in Mikael Granlund and Erik Haula. Haula makes more sense than does Granlund who struggled here when he was used at center and had his best success on the wing.

There is a feeling of been there done that with both Granlund and Haula of course but possibly a one year deal for reasonable money may provide a good stop gap option for the Wild.

In other Wild news, Brennen Menell has signed for the 2020-21 with Dinamo Minsk of the KHL.

With sadness we say goodbye to a true State of Hockey legend who passed away Monday at the age of 99, Mark Sertich. Sertie played our great game all the way to the end lacing then up multiple times a week and loved by all those who knew him and played with him. A true hero who served our country in WWII. #RIPSertie
