Barely better than the worst

The Blackhawks barely squeaked out a win against the worst team in the NHL, the Red Wings.

Chicago looked like they played down to their competition for a majority of the game; not that the Hawks are that much better than Detroit, but let's be honest, DET is a really bad hockey club.

It was a 4-2 win with goals from Strome, Sikura, Boqvist, and Kubalik (ENG).

Congrats to Dylan Sikura on scoring his first NHL goal.

It was a long time coming – 44 games to be exact – but he finally found the back of the net.

I was told that the Hawks had soured on Dylan Sikura and I personally was just waiting for him to be traded for another player that needed a change or as a part of a larger package.

However, since he's returned, he's played hard and won back a little more leash from Jeremy Colliton.

Coach Colliton has placed him on Patrick Kane's line in favour of Alex Nylander and I suspect Sikura stays in the lineup for a while now.

Speaking of Nylander, I'm glad he's been taking some time to watch from the press box. It was needed and here's hoping he's using this as a learning experience.

Nylander and the gang will also have the benefit of getting some solid practice time in as they don't hit the road again until January 14th when they visit Ottawa.

In between that, they have some home-cookin' with games again Calgary (Tuesday), Nashville (Thursday) and Anaheim (Saturday).

The first two games are vital if the Hawks want to continue to ascend the standings.

Currently, the Hawks are 5 points out of the last wild card spot.

Now, I know It may bother some that we're on "playoff watch" with this team, but I'm guessing it's going to be close from here until April, so get used to it.

No, I'm not going to sit here and say I think this Chicago team could make some damage if they sneak into the playoffs. No. They have way too many holes and the way they play is not sustainable.

What I do know is that this team would benefit from having success on some level; chasing for a playoff spot would be a great experience for guys like Boqvist and Dach.

I'll leave you with one last tidbit that I've heard if they Blackhawks do get on a bit of a streak, I was told to watch for Bowman to add in some capacity.

I would guess that would come in the form of a defenceman.

See ya out there!
