Game 14: Canadiens vs Stars AKA Lacklustre in Dallas

The Habs should have been riding high after 3 wins in a row but there's a rule in life; everything that goes up, must eventually come down and the eventually was last night for the Tricolore. I think Shea Weber summed the game up pretty well in his post game comments:

As the captain said; the power play wasn't good enough (no goals in 5 opportunities), the penalty kill wasn't good enough either (2 goals given in 4 opportunities) and even at even strength, the Habs only managed to score one goal with 3 minutes to go (yes, turns out Lehkonen CAN score) which is rarely going to end well. Habs Twitter can complain about the fact that Gurianov should not have had a penalty shot till the end of time if it wants but that wasn't the problem last night. Often that kind of call can produce a momentum shift but there was no such thing last night, you need to have momentum before it can shift to the other team.

While the Canadiens did put 36 shots on goal to Dallas' 40, most of those shots were aimed straight at Ben Bishop who barely had to break a sweat all night. At the other end of the ice, Carey Price did put up a great fight with 36 saves on 39 shots for a .923 save percentage but at the end of the day, he cannot do everything himself. As soon as Radulov opened the score with a power play goal, it felt like that game belonged to Dallas and that didn't change all night. I guess we can at least be grateful that the guys didn't pull that stinker at an ungodly hour, no one had to struggle to stay up to watch that shameful display.

That being said, the Canadiens still picked up 4 out of 6 points during their road trip and won back to back away games for the first time since November 2017 according to CBC... yes I was surprised as well to hear that. The Tricolore now has 12 games left in Novembre and 9 of those will be played at home so we can take some comfort from that. Hopefully, the team will be able to move on from last night's game and be refocused for its big match-up with the Bruins on Tuesday. Exceptionally, the puck will drop at 19:30 for what promises to be an excellent original 6 match-up as they always are.
