***I completely forgot the Hurricanes were playing tonight, so unfortunately I’ve just got the game recap from last night rather than the pre-game today.***

The Carolina Hurricanes continued their hot start to the year, beating the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 last night. Here’s the game recap.

Petr Mrazek was key in the first period, stopping a ridiculous 17 shots, including 11 in about the first 10 minutes while the Hurricanes woke up. He made a great save early on during Los Angeles’ power play just a few minutes in, when Jeff Carter had a great chance all alone in front of the net but Mrazek stretched out to make a pad save. There were multiple other chances for the Kings within about five or six feet or the net but Mrazek was great. Carolina did manage a bit of offense on a man advantage near the end of the period but Jack Campbell made a great save on Jordan Staal to keep it scoreless.

The Hurricanes drew first blood (only blood?) in the second period when Ryan Dzingel made a great pass from behind the net to feed Martin Necas, who buried it from the slot. This was an impressive play from Dzingel, who showed great patience, waiting for Necas to streak in from the blue line before dishing it to him in front.

The teams traded chances after that but the second period ended 1-0 Carolina, with Carolina outshooting the Kings 9-3 in the frame and forcing Jack Cambell to make some good saves.

In the third period, the Kings pressed in the final 10 minutes but Mrazek stayed great, making 11 saves in the period. Sebastian Aho iced it with about 10 seconds left (though I thought it was Teuvo Teravainen’s goal) and the Hurricanes took the 2-0 win.

This was a big win for Mrazek who was at his best and was very sound positionally. He’s definitely a fun goalie to watch, especially while he’s playing well.

Carolina’s next game comes tonight when they face the San Jose Sharks.
