Huge news in hockey today. Not just college hockey, but all of hockey, as young generational talent, Gavin McKenna has left Medici Hat and the CHL to attend and play for Penn State University in the States.

This moment is historic in many ways. The NCAA in the United States now has a lot of money that can be played out to athletes to entice them to attend university. Colleges like Penn State they make a ton of money in the football program, Michigan, Ohio State, etc.. now have the funds to attract star players.

There are many rumors out there that Penn State Hockey, still a young program, but a program that made the final four last season, could not only be attracting McKenna but a few other real top line prospects

It turns out our college writer, Luke Ravitz, he is going to be a junior at Penn State University, so we’re going to have a lot of first handreporting on McKenna and whoever else joins this program.

Earlier today…..

Happy to be back after a couple days off as the NHL took a bit of a pause this weekend…

But not anymore… we’ve already seen signings today and from all I’m hearing we’re about to see some big name players be moved to create space for some of the teams on the bubble of contention…

Right now, there are a few teams with a lot of Cap Space who appeared to be willing to take on some salary while contending teams fill holes.

Who is willing to take on salary?

Anaheim, Chicago, Utah, San Jose and Seattle are the names that keep popping up when I talk to sources who are discussing moving players out…

In NJ….
There are teams interested in Hamilton and Palat…. The Hawks have the most interest in Palat(e4). San Jose for Hamilton(e2)

For the New York Rangers…
There is some interest in Soucy and Trochek…Calgary has some interest in both, but mainly Soucy (e3)

For the Leafs…
Toronto does have nearly $5 million of cap space… However they must still have interest in something larger because they are trying to move some money out I’m told…. Most of the calls they’re getting are on Max Domi. The LA Kings are very interested. Not sure that I would move him, as many times last year in the playoffs he was one of their top players in my opinion.
