Depending on the compensation Nashville gets in draft picks, let him go. However, few prospects have a realistic chance on reaching his level of play. It may be worth matching especially with Suter out of the picture.....(frank) it, match that poop Preds! |

I am leaning towards matching because those flyers picks would be pretty low 1st rounders. Don't see them being very valuable unless Bryz has a meltdown. This is based on just the two 1st, 2nd, 3rd. I think Weber has no problem staying, probably got tired of negotiating. |

And with Suter gone I'd take the four firsts and do the fast track rebuild. A couple are bound to be good picks. |

Four firsts. - prock
Dreger just sent out a tweet that he may have been mistaken. Its two 1st, 2nd, 3rd. Look it up. Its based on 7.1mil aavg. to get 4 1st it would have to be over 8.4mil |

I think Dreger's mistaken.
If it's longer than five years, total contract value // five is your ratio -- or, $20M/year.
Four firsts. |

Well he was right the first time. Four firsts.
You take the total salary divided by number of years, to a Max of five. 20 mil average. Four firsts. |

HockeyBuzz Hotstove: The Hotstove: Should Nashville Match Offer Sheet? - Travis.Yost
It depends on how much more than that they were planning to pay for Shea. It could be they were planning to max him regardless, in which case the Flyers just did them a favor by iron cladding the deal under RFA rights and the current CBA (who knows if they even COULD offer a contract like that nex year).
If the offer is wildly above what they were planning for, they would have lost him anyway and 4 1sts is about what they would be getting back in commensurate value. |

Yes, but that $7.1 is based on a straight $100 million for 14 yrs. According to Dreger, it's $100+ million. So, if true, it could be $117 mill for 14 yrs. And the way, things are going, it could be that.

Wow! The Preds have a tough choice to make. They could be late 1st rounders but it is still a tonne to give up for the Flyers. Guess Pronger is officially done. |

It shouldn't matter. As long as it's five years or more(it is), it'll be four firsts whether it's $100M or $120M. |

I wouldn't either. They could have some very high picks of their own, along with some decent picks from Philly out of this. Start trading up with second and third Rounders, and imagine 8 or more top ten picks in four years? |

So they trade him after a year? Someone else pointed out that it will also depend on if the deal is very heavily front loaded.

Yep, I can't see any trade or pick compensation coming close to what Weber brings. |

letting him go without a fight would show nashville fans that this team cant support star talent. bye bye nashvilles chances at the playoffs or attracting anybody of the blue chip variety to play for this squad. I wonder how Rinne feels these days |
