The Hotstove: Should Nashville Match Offer Sheet? |
|

|
Welcome to the Hotstove! As always, I'm your host, Travis Yost.
Late Wednesday night, news broke via TSN's Darren Dreger that the Philadelphia Flyers had officially signed RFA D Shea Weber to a fourteen-year, $100M+ offer sheet, giving the Nashville Predators exactly seven days to make one of the biggest decisions in franchise history.
Pretty straight to the point -- Nashville has two options here. They either bite the bullet and match the terms of the Philadelphia deal with Shea Weber -- an angle they may have to pursue, considering the recent loss of highly-touted blue liner Ryan Suter.
Or, they let Shea Weber walk to the Philadelphia Flyers, receiving a gross amount of offer sheet compensation in return. Per the most recent offer sheet compensation package, the Nashville Predators would receive four(!) first-round picks.
It's an unbelievably tough business decision -- one that may take David Poile, et al. significant time to decide upon.
The Q: If you're making the decision for Nashville's front office, do you match the offer sheet, or opt for draft pick compensation via Philadelphia?
