I know its only july 16 but I figure we are likely done as many have said. No Doan or Semin (like that would ever happen) no Andrei Kostitsyn signing ( not a huge deal I guess) I don't think we will ever see a ryan trade (too much to give up on)and I hope Gomez is only a rumor (mind you he may dish the puck well to a Bailey or KO. In the end many don't want Strome here yet and I agree...but Kabanov may be interesting I think. he could be that Semin type we want. As far fetched as many will critisize me for saying I wonder what a kid like that may do on the top line...flashy and not shy with being as creative as possible...plus the limelight may be enough to give him the desire to break out...I say its our turn for one of our own in for rookie of the year..why not !!!! ok guys/girls..be gentle...lol

Nothing to really be harsh about. Kabanov may very well end up being on JT's right side, but I doubt it's this year. He needs to get a little confidence and get over his fear of shooting the puck.

I'll take Kabanov over a lot of players at this point. No thanks to Gomez.

Where does Garth Snow get off, offering Matt Martin a measly 5 % increase? He was the only player last year who stuck up for his teamates. He's clearly a piece to this puzzle, and to me, you dont ask a guy to go through a wall for you, and then reward him with a 5% increase. Im not saying he should get millions of dollars, but at the very minimum he should be offered at least a million dollars. Marty Reasoner is taking home 1.35........and he was useless last year.

Edit: Hamonic also dropped the gloves....

The guy made roughly 600 and change last year, and was a beast all season. Double that, and call it 1.2. Anything less than doubling his salary last year is a slap in the face.

And they wonder why players dont wanna play here. This is how family is treated??? Its a joke.

Well I wouldn't double that to 1.2 I would consider it from 1.5 to 2 million per a year because over years he will develop in a top ten defenseman in nhl.

Matt Martin probably a million to 1.3 per a year until he has his scoring streak on then we r talking more moolah!

It's paper work. I don't think anybody ever expected him to accept this. Nothing to fret over. He'll be signed.

They offer qualifying offers because they HAVE TO by a given date....if they offered their top end offer by that date, they WOULD BE the morons certain people all seem to think that they are. If they don't make qualifying offers by said deadline, then the players would be UNRESTRICTED free agents...HELLOOOOOOO!!!!!! No one signs a qualifier, unless they really have no choice....I doubt Martin is in that predicament.

This is how the process works... its not a slap... its not disrespect.. its the business of qualifying offers.

Its how it works when you're low balling. How about realizing what Martin brings to this club and coming in off the bat with a better deal on the table. The only reason to go to arbitration is because the isles were low balling from the start.

hamonic is second most important guy on roster after DP. i think we all agree on that.

as for Martin, while he may not have best hands he plays hard and consistenly looking to improve.

he could be the next clark gillies if he keeps at it. I would definately try him up on first line with Tavares for few game and see what he can do.

As for signing him. hey should give him some Decent money and long term deal.

Its only a negotiation. Its a starting point. Snow knows he's not going to sign him to that increase, but he has to make that offer for procedural reasons. He has to make that offer to retain Martin's rights. This deal will get done and both sides will be happy with it when its done. Martin is a key cog in this team and nobody on the Isles management staff is stupid enough not to realize that he's part of the core going forward.

Who said they're going to arbitration? There is tons of time for them to get a deal done. For an owner who is allegedly hemoraging money, I don't blame Snow for offering the CBA required raise of 5%, since it was likely done for the sole and only purpose of retaining Martin's rights. Why should Snow set his floor for Martin's deal any higher than he needs to? Again, this is all procedure. I'm very optimistic that Martin will get a multi-year deal from the team that both the team and Martin will be happy with, likely in the 4 year, $5M-$5.5M range.

Ugh.....can we stop doing this to any young player with a modicum of talent? Have we not learned our lesson with anointing players as "the next one..."?

I understand how this works, and i wasnt being clear. What im angry at, is the fact that a guy like Matt Martin, who i feel will be a piece to the puzzle, is even at this point. To me, show the guy you want him and get a deal done beforehand. When Garth wants someone, or feels they are part of his future (see Grabner, Okposo etc) deals get done. Im not saying a deal wont get done, but for heavens sake, the guy goes through a wall for you, and you are pinching pennies?? I dont expect a 5 year 10 million dollar deal, but show some respect........show him that you acknowledge what he's done.

I dont feel its just going through the motions........if they really wanted him, he'd have already had a deal.
