Doesn't Lilja's cap hit remain regardless of where he is?

But great work on number crunching, nonetheless.

If MAB is the 7th D-man, I think the Flyers could find a cap-floor taker for Lilja in a minor trade. Some teams could still use him as their #7 and he's inexpensive, with an expiring contract after the 2012-13 season.

If the Flyers wind up trading a veteran D and MAB (or Gus) slides into the top 6, having Lilja as the #7 wouldn't be the worst thing in the world.

so why is everyone saying they have a shot at Nash or Parise? They have no cap space.

I can imagine not-resigning of Carle.
I have no particular opinion on it, though..

0% chance the Flyers aren't using a large chunk of LTIR from Day 1. Standard operating procedure, and all. Only reason they wouldn't is if they are actually concerned about the CBA (which would be a first, I'm not sure they ever read the last one), or if they actually believe Pronger could be back.

Hi Bill,

As I mentioned yesterday, you are including Sestito, Rinaldo and Shelley. They likely wouldn't carry all three if they sign an extra forward. I agree that they might carry Shelley so Sestito goes to the Phantoms, and then we should add back Sestito's salary (650,000) to the cap space.

EDIT: Please disregard...I misunderstood the next paragraph.

If they opt to go after Parise, the other signings most likely would not happen. That would completely change their direction.

As long as they don't have to give up an asset to lose Lilja, like the Legein (and now Hyka) to the Kings trade.

Up against it or not, I expect Homer to get creative with the cap space and add another piece or two. He seems to have no hesitation to switch things up, and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

Who knows, maybe by this time next week we will have signed Schultz and flipped Voracek/Mez for B. Ryan.

People were saying they could afford Carle Voracek and Parise. If it's Carle and Voracek or Parise, I'm going with Carle and Voracek. We never have spending money on 7/1.

So here is where the lineup stands...

Hartnell-Giroux-___________
Simmonds-Briere-Schenn
Wellwood-Couturier-Read
Rinaldo-Talbot-___________
Shelley

Coburn-Grossman
Timonen-Schenn
Meszaros-_________
Lilja

Bryzgalov
__________

Does wellwood make the jump from a 4th line role to 3rd line minutes this year or is he still considered a 4th line winger? I think he is gonna turn into a very solid 3rd line energy type player for this team this year. I peg him as a 3rd liner.

This leaves us with a need for a goal scoring winger, 4th line winger, puck moving d-man, and backup goalie....

Going to be an interesting next 1-2 weeks!

Always had a feeling that Lilja may have to find an exit from this team. I don't hate the guy by any stretch but this is a player who never needed 2 years on his deal.

There is no question that I would trade for Chris Stewart! I would be as happy with have Stewart as I would a Ryan or a Nash.

MAB/Gus aren't gonna be sitting as the 7th d-man... they either make the top 6 or play for the Phantoms don't they? Which leaves Lilja as the 7th d-man regardless of the situation.

What am I missing there?

This could be an interesting line. Hartnell and Briere have had great success together in the past and G just makes everyone better. Would be interesting... definitely an option if they can't acquire a Ryan/Parise and then sign lower tier winger to play with Simmonds and Schenn...

not worth losing an asset to move him his hit is so low and i personally don't think he's as bad as all that. i'd keep him.

Because they have the space to add him in the Summer. And then make some moves at a later time to get Cap compliant for the Season if need be.

The problem is, Bourdon can't be sent down to the Phantoms anymore without clearing waivers first. They'll be forced to carry 2 extra defensemen unless one is moved.
