Nice deal for Pens if true. Surprised Canes are willing to part with both Falk and Sutter in one deal. |

I'm shocked they are willing to give that much up now, when they have the inside track to get him in 13-14. |

What interests me is that Rutherford and everyone close to Carolina is saying they want to find a winger to play with Eric.
Grabbing Jordan is great, but ti doesn't address what they consider the biggest hole. Have to wonder where Skinner would fit, as he was used in that 2 hole for a good chunk of the year.

Eric can play wing, but would be a nice 1-2 punch with Eric-Skinner, Jordan-Ruutu |

Yea, Eric can play wing. I just don't know that I'd make that move, personally. |

There was a rumor last week about Nash to CAR. That would sure solve that issue. Although what does it cost to acquire Nash and Staal? |

Too much. Don't think Carolina has the assets for both. |

If the Pen's have won 1 Cup with Crosby, Malkin and Staal how the hell are the Canes going to compete with just Eric and Jordan while depleting their cupboard ? |

Do they have the inside track? While playing with Eric might be fun, maybe Jordan wants to play for an organization that is close to winning a title? Carolina isn't.

Personally, I think the guy wants to get out from the shadows. He has a Stanley Cup, but I don't think he wants to be remembered as the "awesome third liner" behind two elite players. I think he wants to try proving he can be "the guy" somewhere.
This is all just speculation, of course. |

Not necessarily saying that team is Pittsburgh. Say, Carolina offers XXX and Chicago offers YYY and they are close. JMO he would be more intrigued by Chicago.

That's a ridiculous overpayment.
People are insane if they give up that much for Staal.
What's Malkin worth then, the GDP of Switzerland?
Staal is very good. He is not, however, the second coming. |

Oh you could be right, for sure. I have to wonder if he'd be intrigued by a team like Montreal though. Franchise goalie, a defense that should round out nicely, and some pieces coming together up front through the draft. If he could step into the top line role for them...
Imagine his legacy if he was part of a Cup team there.
Something that randomly came to mind, haha. (not a Habs fan either) |

Then he would be re-signing in PIT in a few weeks. |

Bottom line, the people who think Carolina would be the front runners to sign him if he made it to free agency might be a bit premature in that comment. Just my opinion.

Read my above post ... not necessarily talking about Pittsburgh. Talking about other organizations that have the pieces to compete for a title.

Interesting deal...Pens could get a nice player with the 8th overall pick...or even, trade
8+Falk <->EDM for #1
I heard E. Kane for Staal as well...
I really like Staal though and would prefer that the Pens keep him (but move him to a #2 C role). |

I call shennigans on that trade..that rumor is laughably bad that it came from someone reputable and not a hockey message board |

Stop with the Evander Kane for Jordan Staal non sense. Where did you hear this? That makes absolutely no sense for Winnipeg.

The word reputable does not belong in a sentence with the name Rob Rossi. He's a buffoon. Dejan Kavacavic *sp* was laughing at Rossi as much as the trade proposal.
Rossi likes to make himself part of the story. He calls himself a reporter, but all too frequently feels he needs to offer his opinions......which are frequently absurd. He once said Crosby won't even talk to him..... To that I say Sid is a good judge of character.

I cant speak to the rumors of that Carolina proposed deal but I do agree with this part 100%:
But look, I can tell you, the Penguins are under, they are totally confident in the approach, of letting Staal play out this year because they believe that they have a team that can go and contend for a championship and they’ll try to sign him during the season. If it doesn’t come to that, the ultimate risk is you took one more crack with those big three and it didn’t get done, Staal hits free agency. That’s just a risk they’re willing to take.”
To me I would rather take another run at it. First time in 3 years all 3 centers are healthy and ready to go as well as Orpik. If the risk is losing Staal for nothing, so be it. |
