Rossi weighs in with latest Staal trade rumor

Speaking on the Cochran Sports Showdown Sunday night on KDKA-TV, the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review’s Rob Rossi said the following:

“The one deal I heard today from a source in the league was Faulk, Sutter, the number 1 pick and another player, potentially, plus Carolina might be willing to take on Paul Martin’s salary.”

Dejan Kovacevic then laughs with little restraint, stopping long enough to chuckle “wow” before Rossi continues.

“They’re gonna make a real big deal, a real big effort to try to get Jordan Staal who may be agreeable to signing with Carolina long term once July 1 hits. But look, I can tell you, the Penguins are under, they are totally confident in the approach, of letting Staal play out this year because they believe that they have a team that can go and contend for a championship and they’ll try to sign him during the season. If it doesn’t come to that, the ultimate risk is you took one more crack with those big three and it didn’t get done, Staal hits free agency. That’s just a risk they’re willing to take.”

Only one of the above pictured players is wearing a different colored sweater than Sidney Crosby and the others. Hmmm?

“For Penguins star Malkin, Hart of the matter,” from the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

“Penguins happy to show off city to prospects,” the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports.

One event in Pittsburgh will feature prospects playing dek hockey on the Roberto Clemente bridge prior to a Pirates game. Hopefully, Brooks Orpik won’t be around to provide any of the checking, as seen here.
