Other than that fairly reasonableRich. Couple changes I would make, first off give Smyth one years until his retirement he doesn't want to play anywhere else and management needs to take advatage of that. Then resign Petry for 2 years. UFA players I would target.
Wideman- Maybe bit of a stretch but depending on how the Caps do come playoffs they might want to shake things up.
Harding is my choice for goaltending as well.
Dustin Penner - We need to get bigger up front after his poor performance in LA I'm doubting he resigns and he enjoyed his time in Edmonton. Start as a third liner than see what happens.

Why, Longbottom is not a fan?

I struggled over the Penner thing. If the Oilers could sign UFA Penner who could score 20 goals and show up most of the time, he'd be worth $2mil per season. If the Oilers sign the idiot LA has been dealing with, there is no point to it.

I like the idea of drafting Reinhart.

Are you kidding? Passing up on an obviously more talented player in Dumba to draft a player with more character (complete wild guess on your part) makes no sense. If you want character, sign one of the many "good in the dressing room" plugs available at free agency.

Character won't get this team out the basement. Talent will. I don't know where you come up with these assumptions anyways.

I'm not sure if Dumba has more to offer than Reinhart.

Reinhart's more of a project. Besides I'd rather trade the pick straight up for a young, established defenseman.

On that we have agreement. I would love for the Oilers to move the pick for a defensive star or a real #1 goalie.

LB has a stiffy for Reinhart, already penning him to be the greatest D man ever

Dumba concerns me, other than being a very small defenseman right now and how soon he could be NHL ready I've heard things with his work ethic and his ability to be coached that I don't like.

Exactly. The entire Kings team has struggled with scoring this year, makes you wonder if it's mostly the system whereas he did quite well under Renney's.

I'd prefer a defenseman. A capable defense can make an average goalie look better.

Penner has had a very rough year off the ice, and I can't help but wonder how much that has altered his play. Obviously he won't be back in LA next season. He needs a fresh start.

I'd take a flier on him for 2-3 million.

Sure, I'd do $2mil and change for a season of Penner, to see if he could get back to being a 20g+ player.

I am so glad that Richard is not the GM of the Edmonton Oilers.

The Oil had better hold on to this year's pick, no matter if it ends up being #2 or #3. Select either Grigorenko or Murray and hold on to them.

The other risk is if we get Penner we almost automatically have to get rid of Paajarvi. Smyth will be here next year, we need Eager, Jones should stay and Hall is a no brainer. doesn't leave much more room on the LW.

pretty good Richard. I have a couple small problems with your thinking, but if that went 100%, sure be a bit happier as a Oiler fan.

We are not sure about Omark yet, I think his play the next few games will set weather he is traded or not.

my target to trade though would be Sammy. I suspect we will find out oh... just before the draft if that happens, because we do need a moose at center. Belanger is expendable, and I think if Omark doesn't go, then MPS may be waived around to see who bites hard. We are stuck with Khabby.

We also have a very good second rounder there, so package that with MPS could get us a very good 1st rounder back, and you can get that defenseman.

CBJ has been playing very well, and we play them twice, so we may end up 1st overall pick again this year. If you throw Gags, MPS and the second rd pick, think CBJ may bite at that one? They are looking for help now, not adding prospects, while we as Oiler fans just like to suffer more.

Move him to the right wing. Play Eager and Jones on the Belanger line.

I think if you looked at the difference in picks 2 and 5 since 2000 you'd probably change your mind on this. McBain does not make even close to as much of a difference as a potential superstar.

But I do like your other ideas.

If I'm the oilers I'm thinking about radek faksa. 6'3 centr on the rise. He can even slot into the wing to start. I'd also think about trading omark and our 2nd rounder to get another first of possible. There you can grab subban or maybe ceci.

Edit: that's if faksa continues to rise similar to huberdeau
