Very fun game to watch, how Ottawa has such a bad record is strange.

Schedule:

CBJ:

@BOS, @NYR, FLA, STL, @EDM, @CAL, @VAN, DET, PIT, @NHS (predict 10 points if a miracle happens out West).

PHI:

WSH, @DET, NYR, @PIT, @DAL, @COL, BOS, @NYI, CAR, NYR (predict 10 points).

NJ:

@ANA, @SJ, @PIT, TBL, CAR, PIT, NYI, @MTL, NYR, TOR, @WSH (predict 12 points)

FLA:

@MTL, @OTT, @CBJ, ARI, @NYI, @TOR, @OTT, @BOS, CAR, NSH, BOS, BUF, @BOS
(predict 16 points)

Standings:

PHL: 83
CBJ: 83
NJD: 82 + 1 game in hand
FLA: 77 +3 games in hand.

Wow, what a day yesterday. NJ pounds LA, FLA somehow loses to EDM, PHL ends CAR hopes (as if they weren't already toast), and the CBJ gets another must win. FLA did some real damage to itself yesterday, they are one more loss away from being behind teams further than their games in hand.

Today us a huge day for the CBJ, with PHL in a back-to-back with WSH, and NJD in a back-to-back against ANA, who is desperate to get back in the top 8. If NJD wins today, pen them in for a playoff spot.

CBJ needs both PHL and NJD to lose today, and then win against BOS tomorrow, a very tall order in BOS, especially since FLA gets MTL on Monday too. The CBJ then has an absolute must win game on Tuesday at the NYR.

By Thursday night we will have a very good idea who is in and who is out. The CBJ has to run the table this week.

Current guess finish:

NDJ: 94 (3rd in division)
PHI: 93 (2nd Wild card, with 39 ROW)
FLA: 93 (1st wild card, with 40 ROW)
CBJ: 93 (out on ROW tiebreaker, 38 ROW)

Could easily change tomorrow, I hope it does.

You are the saddest sack of sad sacks. We’re on a 7 game run, Florida is dropping games to EDM and you think they’re gonna end with 93!?! They have 8 games in 12 days to end their season. Sportsclubstats currently has us at 83% to make the playoffs. Have a little faith in the team.

Nuts to that comment sir, I'm being realistic here. Look at the schedules for the remaining teams, especially Florida and New Jersey, then tell me again how negative I am.

Until losing last night in a 2nd game of a back-to-back on the West
Coast NJ has been playing awesome hockey, winning games in spite of their #1 G being in a slump.

Philly just won both games of a back-to-back against Carolina and Washington, possibly starting to get hot after a long losing streak.

Florida has has a lot of games left and a lot of back-to-backs, but they are playing lousy teams, 7 of their final games are against bottom-dweller teams, and three games with Boston who the soundly defeated the other day.

I've been a CBJ fan since they were announced, and I even predicted this year they were a legitimate competitor to win the Cup this year. Whether I support the team or not, the numbers don't lie. they have a tough three game road trip with PIT and NSH to end the season, and four tough games this week, starting with a back-to-back in Boston.

The biggest problem they have in this close race is the fact that they do not have enough ROW in comparison to their opponents.

With respect, you are wearing rose-colored glasses if you believe the CBJ has an 83% chance to get in.

Numbers do lie sometimes. Just look at the weekend in March Madness. I’m usually a negative person, but lately I’ve been trying to have more of a positive outlook on life. Saying the team is gonna make it makes me feel good, so I’m gonna keep doing that. You do you.

Also, getting 93 points means Florida will be running at a 67% points pace, when they’ve been stuck at around 55% most of the season. You can make the numbers say a lot of things.

I agree with both of your posts, there are times when the numbers mislead, since we are all human and no human is perfect. I want to stay positive too, but a dose of realism is needed as well.

At this point of the season the numbers that really matter are how well you are playing, points, ROW, remaining games, and who the opponents are.

The CBJ are playing great hockey, no question. NJ is on a big time roll, if they win at SJ they are without question a playoff team IMO. Fla is scuffling a little, but they have a ton of easy/easier games to finish. Is Philadelphia over their slump, and ready for a big winning streak? We will know by Friday.

I won't rehash everything else, but from what I wrote the other day nothing has changed, and the CBJ is not in a good position. but if you want to be really positive, if the CBJ, PHL, and NJ keep playing like they are even PIT might be sucked back into a race with them, and it could even be possible they become a wild card.

Nobody knows, that's why they play the games.

As it stands Florida is bellow the 50% mark but again these percentages are all highly volatile given streaks can swing from one team to another , it's been said (I think by you , if the cbj win that game on Thursday it could be back breaking for the Panthers.
