Final Score: Blue Jackets 2 – Senators 1

Game Summary

The Jackets line-up had a different look as Seth Jones was forced to miss his first game of the season. Jones is day-to-day after getting shaken up against Colorado. With Jones out, Ryan Murray returned to the line-up after being a healthy scratch last game.

With Markus Nutivaara back the Jackets defence is deep and against a team like Ottawa who is near the bottom of the standings, you could afford to rest Jones. The team needs Jones but they need him to be at or near 100%.

The Jackets really didn’t need Jones in this game the way they played. The Jackets dominated with a 62.24% Corsi at 5 on 5. They outshot Ottawa 35-24 and out chanced them 18-12. Murray was really good playing alongside Nutivaara. As a pair they had a 73.33% Corsi and were on the ice for seven high danger chances for and four against. Nutivaara also got himself on the score sheet, scoring the Jackets second goal, the game winner.

Nutivaara should not be coming out of the line-up any time soon. He’s not going to get many points, but he always moves the play in the right direction. This game was another example of that.

The Jackets other goal was scored by the red hot Boone Jenner.

That goal was Jenner’s 10th of the season and his third consecutive game with a goal. He also has at least point in his last five games. His line has been incredible and it’s made the Jackets so much tougher to defend. You can’t just focus on the top line and shutting down Artemi Panarin.

As always Sergei Bobrovsky was his usual dominate self in net. He made 23 of 24 saves for a .958 save percentage.

We’re at the point in the season just about everything has been said about Bobrovsky before. Games like this have almost become routine.

With the win the Jackets keep pace with the Flyers, and Devils, both of whom also won. The Flyers and Devils both play today so the Jackets will be scoreboard watching as they get prepared to take on the Bruins on Monday.
