Thanks Bill. Has Patrick officially switched his number to the 19 he wore in junior?

Also. Rip tom petty. Recently we've lost so many of the musicians I grew up listening to.

I can't wait to see how amac handles Thornton, perry, getzlaf et al. I'm certain he will dominate on this west coast trip.

Bill,

Why are they so damn scared to just carry the 3 rookies and let them play on defense. I know there will be bumps along the road but Toronto just showed that they can still win along with taking those bumps while also getting your young players solid experience.

I actually feel that this team has a better chance of making the playoffs with the 3 rookies on defense compared to the alternative.

I think you're right and at the very least they are more exciting to watch than with amac and manning.
What I suppose is that hextall knows this team is not a true contender so he sees no need to rush the kids with the hope of maybe scraping into the playoffs.

Re the forwards:

I could better understand the demotion of Lindblom if his replacement in the lineup was someone better than Dale Weise. I really don't get what both the management and the coaching staff see in this guy. Hopefully Lindblom is back up soon and Weise is in the press box where he belongs. I also have to wonder just how lousy a player is Lehtera anyway if he can't beat out Weise.

Re the D:

I'm sorry, but I cannot fathom for the life of me how Brandon Manning is in the lineup before any of the kids. AMac I can sort of get, but Manning?? Manning should be the 7th man, period, end of story. Hopefully, at some point soon, they will get past their fear of youth and get all 3 of Sanheim, Morin and Hagg in the lineup on a nightly basis. If they make some mistakes, LET THEM LEARN FROM THE EXPERIENCE. This team is not a contender by any stretch of anyone's imagination. Now IS the time to get these kids into the NHL. Carolina did it, and it certainly doesn't seem to have done any of their young Dmen any harm.

They may miss the playoffs no matter what they do, but I'd rather see them miss with youth. Either way, if they miss this season and don't get off to a good start next season, Hak's job should be in jeopardy. And, if they go on and miss the playoffs both this year and next, Hextall needs to come under serious scrutiny as well.

End rant.

Enjoyed the rant and agree with a lot of it. Can't see Hak getting axed though. I really don't expect a good start with the sched. If they go 1 and 3 on the road trip I'd be happy. 2 And 2 because the goaltenders told on their heads and I'm ecstatic. Then they'll prob lay an egg vs a still solid Washington team for the home opener. So 1 and 4 and behind the pack already. This place will be a party of that happens haha

I guess my problem is Hextall has steadfastly stated that a rookie needs to push a vet out and make the team better.

This year that has happened. In all reality Morin, Sanheim and Hagg have all outperformed MacDonald and should be in the starting lineup.

There is no reason Morin and Sanheim should not be in the lineup against the big skilled forwards they face this week.

I don't expect anything to happen to Hak this season. What I was saying was that if they miss the playoffs this upcoming season and get off to a poor start in 18-19, then Hak should be on the chopping block.

Exactly. All 3 kids outperformed the 2 vets you mentioned. And, if we really want to be fair, they outperformed Ghost too. These kids should all be in the lineup.

I don't think this road trip is as bad as you think. No Marleau and Thornton coming off injury for San Jose, the Ducks have a ton of injuries in their lineup as well. Probably a good way to start the year to be honest.

And that's the problem.

These guys did everything asked.

I think it would have been a strong statement by Hextall and the organization to have both in the lineup and waive a guy like MacDonald.

It so frustrating because it feels like they are not sure what to do, but the one thing they are not willing to do is play all three rookies. Sure they may suffer through some games where the rookies play like rookies, but there is no real upside long-term in playing AMac and Manning instead.

What's worse is that it basically tells the kids: guess what? We're full of crap. It doesn't matter how well you perform we have a quota of rookies that we will carry and on D that number is 2, so enjoy riding the buses.

Exactly, it's not like they would be scratching Nick Lidstrom and Ray Bourque to make room for the kids.

It's not about what they see about Weise over Lindblom. Lindblom has been demoted simply because the Flyers don't feel playing him in limited minutes on the 3rd line is the best thing for him. They feel he is better off playing a top role in the AHL for a while. Not the end of the world. Maybe they don't feel Lehtera can play effectively at Wing.

Correct.

And what makes it worse is you just saw a team last year that was lead by rookies and made the playoffs.

Now they are better prepared for this season and could speed up their window to contending.
