Except that McClement is a center and Adams is a winger. Kind of a big difference there and no, there aren't a "cornucopia of players currently in the system who can provide more than he can." In fact, I can't name one, unless we're talking about such stellar prospects as JS Dea. Maybe Simon? McClement right now is probably the best 4C on the Pens. Let that sink in. He kills penalties and wins faceoffs.
He's an 11-year vet. A marginal NHL talent for sure, but I probably feel better with him at 4C than Dea or Simon. I'd rather the Pens sign a legit 4C or a 3C to play 4C. |

Evening gents... There will be waiver opportunities before puck drop that will make more sense for the pens. Other teams have prospects that will force their way into the lineup, and 4th line centers will be available. No time to panic IMO. |

I thought they should have kicked the tires on Dom Moore. |

I can't stand that guy. Still a decent player, though, especially for $1 mil and he can play left wing, too. |

Yeah, I'm guessing he's getting a shot to make the team for organizational depth at center, maybe for an emergency call-up scenario. I'm sure he would accept a two-way contract and play in the minors. |

Beggars can't be choosers. Pens literally have no centre depth, so McC on a PTO. I take it, until JR finds a more suitable player in the hockey universe. There will be better Cs to pick by the time the season starts. No worries |

|
Second the Dom Moore notion... |
|
|
|
If going the PTO route, Winnik would have been a better option. And I really wasn't a fan when he was here. Slim pickins...but wow McClement is terrible.
Also, is Mike Ribeiro worth taking a chance on? (keep in mind how bad our C depth is...) |

Moore and Jussi would have been excellent cheap additions. I think Ruth missed the bus on those two. Guys that can play center and wing. At least with those two on the roster, he could wait for a while on the 3c. |

It just depends on what he has cooking. Don't get me wrong I'm a little worried but JR just put together back to back cup winning teams. Maybe it was 'luck'! |

I totally agree with Winnik. I don't see Bonino as being much better than him, if at all.
EDIT: I brought up Ribeiro here before and most thought he was too much of an A-hole. |

Damn straight. ZAR and Sprong will lead us to promised land. |

On zar and sprong.
Every time I look at the pens roster I see hornqvist as the guy who gets us a 3c this year. Our defense isn't really good enough to dangle maatta. Hagelin doesn't have the trade value and we need a pk guy a lot more than a pp guy.
Hornqvist character and style is great to have on the team but we have never won a championship without having a good 3c. We've won without a hornqvist. Come playoff time zar or sprong will likely be solid wingers we can play.
I wish we could have jumped on Johansson when caps gave him away.
As a side not I list Boston with Edmonton and the capitals for giving away offensive talent. To think caps got a 2nd, 3rd, and some veteran rental I can't remember for forsberg and johannson |

I think this article makes the most sense in regards to getting a 3rd line center.

All of those guys could work. But non of them are sure thing quality 3c. Eakin is the only one that has the potential to be a good 3c but he's coming off a bad year. Why did he have a bad year? Did he get paid and then got lazy? Legit possibility. His larger sample size says he can fill the role. But he's already paid. So unlike a guy whose ufa and needs to have a good year to get a contract he won't have that motivation.
It's why I keep coming back to a hockey trade centered on hornqvist. Other option is to trade sprong. Those are the only assets we have to get a stud 3c. |
|
|
|
We cannot trade sprong. He will be a 35 goal scorer within 3 years |

I don't know what Eakin had such a terrible year. Was he hurt? Who knows and that make me nervous about him. I also know very little about Haula. |
