4. Consider trading the potential of Darnell Nurse to a rebuilding team in exchange for a current superstar. Darnell Nurse to Colorado for Tyson Barrie makes a lot of sense.

Does it?

To Edmonton at least. And maybe to Colorado if they are serious about moving him.

Makes absolutely no sense unless Edmonton seriously adds value to that. Nurse could very well still be a bust.

Tyson Barrie is a superstar? He's really good but doesn't he score most of his points on the PP similar to Yandle?

If I was Edm I'd trade a forward and keep Nurse.

Let's make the playoffs just 1 year before we start talking cup please.

21 of his 50 points were on the PP (and it was a bad PP this year)..same PP production as Risto

About 1/3 of his points to date career wise....Yandle's closer to 50% I believe

Thought it was a lot more.

I like Barrie and hope the Sabres inquire, but I don't think he's a top 3-5 D man which would define the term superstar IMO

Overpaying for Yandle makes a lot of sense but short term won't get it done.

Yandle's likely going to several lucrative long term offers and Edmonton is not exactly the first choice on top level free agents destination list.

Hes good and an xfactor on the blue line. I take the good and bad when it comes with him. But he has been impressive stat wise and possession wise with 2 boat anchors of partners in Guenin and Holden for the past 2 years.

I think he even more effective with a proper partner...which I think its Zads next year. They will rival the top pairing

As any half-way intelligent person can tell you, if you flip a coin and get heads ten times in a row, there is no higher chance of flipping tails on the next toss. You aren't "due" for tails because the past has no bearing on the future. If you follow this analogy and apply it to the Oilers, what it means is that years of failure have nothing to the future of this team.

Performance of hockey teams in consecutive years is not a coin flip Tanner. They are not fully independent events. Learn the difference before drawing a false equivalence...

"SUPERSTARS" - there are only a handful of true Superstars in the NHL - Crosby, Ovechkin, Stamkos, Jagr (cause he earned it long ago).
The rest are "STARS".
The term "Superstar" is used far too often.

Just one man's opinion.

He needs to be a #2-3 option defensively.

His defensive ability is under rated, its not like he is a roving liability out there. Hes has his moments that he is a train wreck in his own end, however he always has his skating and passing ability to make a really nifty play to lug the puck out of the zone himself.

Hes not a puck battle kind of guy in the corner, but he does a lot of little things very well in his own end. For an undersized guy, he will always have his issues getting steam rolled by bigger guys.

3. Realize that their best window for winning is when McDavid is on an ECL, meaning they have this year and next year to basically have an extra free superstar player against the cap..
- James_Tanner

So the Oilers shouldn't trade any of their young guns, but rather sign a high-priced UFA this summer and go for it in the next two seasons?

Totally makes sense.

Go for it, Oilers!

Really its just another sign of incompetence by the organIzataion...they shouldve recognized when their window would be and kept McDavid in junior and let his contract slide

I don't think you are allowed to play in junior until you are 27.

Nurse has the potential be that all around 1 stud, I just don't think there's much chance of him getting moved. While what u say about klefbom is mostly true, nurses ceiling is still higher.

And I certainly don't think they'd move him in a deal for Barrie if they already acquired or were acquiring yandle who has a similar skillset.

If u can't get a defender via the 4th, I think u look move a forward before moving nurse. He's cheap and with the correct development along with said additions, your core goes from bad to really good potentially. It's also that mean streak and willingness to go to war for his teammates that is invaluable. I think we'd really regret moving him

As far as them (the core forwards) being mentally broken, it's not about that per se. It's just human nature that ones confidence gets damaged and becomes fragile after years and years of losing. And vice versa from teams that learn how to win. It's nothing out of the ordinary or some hyperbole saying they're ruined, just that the inevitable of bottom feeding has probably occurred. Here's an article from last summer where ebs talks about just that

Why do people always attribute this incorrect definition of insanity to Albert Einstein? It comes from a 1980 narcotics anonymous pamphlet and is not in any way, shape or form the definition of anything.

Poor example, 90% of the league gets steam rolled by The Buff.
