Big no to this. The only way I entertain a deal for Hall is if it includes Letang instead of Mattaa. Even that i wouldn't want to do but I long ago thought Letang should be the one to go based on the pipeline and construction of the team. Letang is playing great hockey right now but Pouliot will be ready to take his spot as early as next year.

Have to move a big money contract out for this to make any sense.

I also don't see why Sutter is such a throw in, he might be playing better than anyone not named Malkin. The Pens need him.

Maatta may be young but he's going to be great. He's off limits as far as i'm concerned.

start with malkin
- oilstone

I thought Hall was the one EDM would build around, not move.

But not to be a d!ck, but nobody thats decent with NMC is waiving to go to EDM. However valuable the fans there think their players are they just arent going to get that value in return. Malkin would most likely prefer Siberia.

No Yonk1216 said he was a 3/4 Dman.

Klef/Marincin/Nurse all full time next season. No question.

I agree Sutter would be a nice addition, just not at the price of Hall

- nanook82

You can shop Eberle or Perron to get Sutter if you wanted. Hall requires bigger pieces

Different views I guess. I might get some hate for this but I think RNH is a #2 C.

I think you are absolutely right about this.

You're putting a lot of faith in a guy that has some AHL highlights against cones and another Dman that has a bad shoulder. When Martin walks and possibly Ehroff, Pens will be pissed at MAF again for allowing so many goals.

Yes there are a lot of ifs, but wouldn't you feel safer getting tlusty or boedker and another top 9? Sid and geno will produce no matter who they play with. I would rather have a much better balanced team than two stacked lines
- znagle

To put this bluntly. Enough with the (frank)ing boedker bullpoop. I know he isn't half the name of hall but everyone and their God damn mother knows he's not being traded because Arizona has jack poop going for them on offense. Palmer #2

I just don't think more young players is what Edmonton needs. They need guys who can teach the kids how to win. And not grinders like Boyd Gordon, they need guys who can play with the kids. Like, Hornqvist would have been a perfect trade target for the Oilers last summer. A guy who plays hard all the time, backchecks hard all the time, and is willing to do what it takes to win, while having the talent to share a line with a guy like Hall.
- hardnosed

Thats why I want a Hall-Crosby-Hornqvist line in the worst possble way

But you raise a good point. Its just such a slippery slope for them. I think they really need guys like Kunitz and Martin for their team and would help them become contenders but they cant trade premium young assets for guys that old. Their situation just sucks...

Yep. The wise thing for the Penguins to do is to wade gently into things right now. Don't blow the depth, both on the roster and in the organization, for one single solitary piece. Regardless of how this season turns out, next year is looking awesome considering the fact that they've got no big UFA signing to have to make, they're going to have cap room no matter what, and they're likely going to get boosts of youth and cap savings from Harrington, Pouliot, Kapanen and Sundqvist.

Penguins need a little boost, not sea change.

I was just throwing a name out there of the talent level we should acquire. We do not need Hall at his price. End of story. We should get kassian, tlusty etc

Perron is the only EDM player I have interest in to be honest. Bases on price and what he brings.

Letang has a LMC so its likely a moot point. Maatta is also injured at the moment, potentially long term injury, so it really muffs up the situation.

I think the Edmonton organization does realize they can't attract talent. Not saying they've done a not terrible job, but there's not much they can do about the fact that their city is a frozen truck stop. Not only are they over a barrel, but they're permanently bolted to it.

Also, long time no see brah.

- BulliesPhan87

Which is why an organization like that needs to draft well... and they have been pathetic at drafting and/or developing talent.

Look at this horrible history of draft picks after the 1st round.

Who was the last every day NHL player picked after the 1st round? Jeff Petry in 2006?

The ironic thing about this post is those are the 3 players we got for Staal..... and a lot of the fan base was irate about having to make that deal....

Worked out pretty well IMO....

Having the scouting staff and foresight to make those deals are what keeps a team competitive.... Boston whiffed on the Seguin deal and rumors out of Boston are Chiareli is on the hot seat.

- Yonk1216

Thats actually what we were talking about, how value in trades never seems to fit when you make big ones like that.

What do you think it costs to land Boedker and Kassian? Sutter is going the other way which would kill our bottom 6 talent right? Next! Also Vancouver is in the playoff race so they aren't trading roster players and Arizona really has the same positional depth as we do.

If the GM wouldn't trade Mike Comrie for Corey Perry and a first, why is this even being discussed?

Someone also suggested Hall is soft? I don't recall ever getting that impression from him.
- dbell646

He doesn't play soft. Body might be a lil soft as he's always getting injured. Quick healer that lil bugger though and he's almost completely rebuilt. Robot like

Random thought...

I know that James Neal is certainly a tier below Taylor Hall and had his share of issues...but he was a 40 goal scorer on a reasonable contract and locked up for a while. We all thought guys like he and Kesler were going to pull huge returns in both quality and quantity but were traded for a lot less. Just food for thought.

+1 as long as that price isn't sutter. Perron is overvauled a lot for a two time 50 point scorer...
