OOoh the Bailey comment should generate some good responses.
Glad to hear that Carkner will be out of the lineup most nights. Also not particularly surprised that Matt Martin is going to see diminished ice time, he was atrocious last year.
Guess it will lead to a bottom seven resembling something like:
Bailey-Nielsen-Grabner
Conacher/McDonald-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
Boulton
Have to imagine they're not going to keep whichever one of Conacher/McDonald don't make the team. Boulton will be the spare part for when we play tougher teams.
Frankly, I'd rather see:
Lee-Nielsen-Grabner
Bailey-Cizikas-Clutterbuck
But I doubt that will happen. |

If Martin gets diminished ice time, than I'd rather trade him in a package for something.....

His trade value is zero. He's a fourth liner that hits, fights, doesn't score, and is coming off a down year, even for him. He's a replacement-level player. |

Some teams might value him bc of his hits n fighting. Most team look for role players to fill out bottom 6. CHI board would love him immediately....
Martin has value, just not much to us..... |

There's a couple guys on the Chicago board that like him, yes. But that doesn't mean the actual Blackhawks want him. You can find any number of plugs that like to hit and fight and sign them for free. Do we really need a 5th round pick? Because his value isn't worth much more than that. |

I'm very worried Lee is going to lose out and we have a long wait for that dman trade.

Should probably resign him. That's the cool thing to do these days with those type of players. |

It's not the end of the world if Lee starts in the AHL. I don't want that to happen, but first line minutes there are more beneficial than 4th line minutes on the Island. |

No question I rather Lee not play 4th line minutes. I just think he earned his spot off of last year. Now if Lee comes to camp in lousy shape and does nothing that is different. I just do not want guys like Bailey getting the spot because of contract. The best players have to play. |

Why would you want to trade him anyway? His cap hit is the same as John Tavares' which everyone says is one of the best contracts in the league...sooo, same thing right? |

Ok but his number must be in the rafters once he retires. |

It will be. That's where the Panthers are likely to stash his jersey to try and forget they ever signed him to that contract. |

Don't we have a more expensive & older version of Martin in Clutterbuck? I think Martin could contribute more in the points column if given solid 3rd line minutes. He has better hands than Grabner but then again, so do I. |

It will be on top of the roof, under the air conditioning unit in a cardboard box labeled "AIDS DO NOT OPEN" |

I don't know. I'm sure there are some foolish GM's out there who would give at least a 3rd for him |

You could sign a guy off the scrap heap without having to part with any assets and get a similar player. I doubt anybody is going to pony up a 3rd round pick for Martin. |

Yes but No.
The yes part is they play a similar game and Cal is more productive but No in the fact that Cal doesn't fight. So without any really everyday enforcer in line-up, players could be cheap-shotted without no one on team able to retaliate. |

This is such an overblown, sorry storyline in hockey these days. It's great and all in theory but there is literally no deterrent, outside of the rules, to throwing cheap shots. If Jakub Voracek spears Tavares and then Martin fights Rinaldo..what was actually accomplished? Nothing. Not. One. Thing.
I sure didn't see Martin go after that cro-magnon toilet-baby Radko Gudas after he did this:

If Voracek speared JT, I could see a player try something to Voracek. Which the incident could enhance or let die down. If Martin or Boulton not in line-up, more actions would take place on the players bc of lack of toughness/fighters. Which can result into a Rinaldo-Martin bout... |

And if some star player made a play like that, any goon that tried to retaliate would be made an example of and ridiculed by hockey fans for "breaking the code".
Goons/enforcers take it out on other goons/enforcers to retaliate, not always the person who caused the issue to begin with. |

I don't know man. This team seems to play a much better game when they have muscle in the lineup. They play with more confidence IMO. Yeah there are some games I can see Martin sitting out when they play another soft, fast, small team. You take Martin out of the lineup and this is a very soft team. Not sure how well that's going to play out over the course of a full season. |
