TALK TALK: Staple's All-Nighter

Along with Art Staple's sports assignments from Newsday and posting his excellent articles in print and on the web, he takes the time to answer questions on Twitter. The truth is -- I have never met a hockey writer that actually sleeps much. So in the eleventh hour of a slow Monday, Art took to Twitter to answer almost every question thrown at him. I was sleeping. I can't keep up with these guys. So, here are the Cliff Notes on the over night with my comments in parens:

Kevin Poulin has missed his shot at the dance. (I always thought he looked like an accountant any way.)

Simple math says that some of these guys get cut or are lost to waivers. (We could be losing a fan favorite here or there or potentially another one we'll all complain about being successful somewhere else.)

Matt Donovan would need to be placed on waivers to be moved (see above.)

You'll be waiting at least two to three years for Dal Colle or Ho-Sang, maybe less for Pulock. (So don't buy a jersey yet.)

Staple still has high hopes for Josh Bailey and a 40-50 point season. He's here for the long haul, but not on JT's line. (I've been saying all along that Josh would not be traded or moved as that would mean he was a mistake. )

Isles will be playoff bound and can win a round -- if it isn't the Bruins on the other side of the ice. (My daughter will get a kick out of that one.)

There is nothing imminent on a new "D" acquisition front. (Rumors be damned, Art knows.)

Don't mess with assistant coach Greg Cronin. (Great. I'll avert my eyes in the hallway.)

Carkner is 7/8 guy on D and Boulton won't play much. Matt Martin may not see as much ice time either. (booo!!!!! Not our Matty Marts!!)

TJ Brennan has good potential to make the grade.

There was talk of Brooklyn. Talk of the IslanderMania tailgate and invitations to weddings. All in all it was a good night for Isles fans on Twitter with their main man with the truth and the scoops.

Sideboard: Today is the Isles charity golf event. With luck the weather will hold out for them as this is always a really well attended and profitable event for their Children's Charities. It's also a fun day for the guys to relax and a tough work day for the Islanders staff. It's a long one.

Here is the link to Mr. Staple's Newsday article on Jack Capuano and what he will be looking for in camp this season. This is a tough year for Jack. Any extended period of losing and it will be scary Greg Cronin leading the bench.
