Peter Tessier: Team Oil or Team Leaf- who gets it right first? In the summer of data two teams made significant and public moves, the Oilers and the Leafs. However, who realizes positive results first?

I got to say Oilers. Talented group of young kids. Defense is still questionable and I think goaltending will be average.

Patiently awaiting sensnucksnocups comment.

You should know that the Oilers already had some other people doing inhouse analytics and just added Dellow. They also hired Rocky Thompson in a role where he is a coach from the press bax doing in game video analysis as he was in OKC. So there is also much more to the Oilers group than you are giving them credit for.

This is so easy Leafs. One oilers are to weak on defense and bad depth at fowards. The biggest thing is look who they have to beat to make it past first round. Blues, Ducks, Blackhawks, kings. No way they can compete with them. The stars, wild, and sharks look better and deeper then oilers to.

BTW - why are we discussing these two teams in a Jets blog?

This isn't apples to apples.

Lowe has not had anything to do with the on ice product since the rebuild began. He had the hardest job to do when the Edmonton Investors Group owned the club. He had very little money. He made some bad moves yes.

But since becoming president when Katz took over he was tasked to turn the club into an entertainment company. He fired the old scouts nd training staff. Hired a whole new group. Built a European scouting staff. Built an entire development system that we didnt have before. We now have the AHL Oil Barons, ECHL Condors, and the WHL Oil Kings all under the Oilers banner and can now develop our own prospects. Lowe has not been perfect by any stretch. But has done many good things that most fans dont even know about. The on ice product is entirely in MacT's hands.

I mentioned that they had a analytics position and filled it. In game video is just one part of it but a good step indeed.

It wasn't a Jets blog it was a blog about events in NHL and that I had not read anywhere about how these teams are linked.

Want me to include the Jets?

They have done nothing- surprised?

Are the Jets in the Mcdavid sweepstakes? I really don't think they are that bad. They need a starting goalie though.

They have multiple people in the analytics department. Dan Haight of Darkhorse analytics was already working for the Oilers and they also had in house data collection going on.

True but I think prior to him being promoted Mac T had the university of Alberta statisticians doing some work for him as well. To what degree I'm not sure, but I do think it to help him understand that aspect and how it may benefit him and the club. Oilers fans, am I correct on this?

Your ability to shift gears in your commentary is remarkable. One post you're putting together a well thought out collection of facts, the next you're on the Leaf thread posting blatant troll content.

I still have Winnipeg ahead of EDM. Just a starting goalie away from taking the wildcard IMO.

I think the Oil will be a good team in another couple of years.

That being said, I have to say Team Leaf.

It will be hard to lose with two up and coming Norris type D-men and a solid forward group.
