Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Linden on Air, Should Canucks Sign Dustin Penner? As Trevor Linden prepares to take to the airwaves on Tuesday, musing on goal songs, game presentation and unrestricted free agents still available at bargain prices.

Penner is likely a good value at this point, but yet another third line type of player so I don't think he'll get an offer from the Canucks.

A team that could use a 3LW should be offering him a contract though.

Agreed, at this point, lets leave at least 1 or 2 roster spots open for a young gun

Unless they plan on trading like Hansen, and signing Penner.

46% voted to give the spot to a younger player. Question? What is wrong with the other 54% of you?

Penner needs a chip on his shoulder. He could really do a lot more damage on the ice.

That would be lovely with a spicy mango salsa.

Lindens talking Bo on 1040

Sounds like he thinks Bo is gonna make the line up.

I bet Lapierre plays more games/minutes than him, that's assuming Mueller even makes the team.

I'm skeptical about the syrup being authentic maple. How un-Canadian.

Mueller kinda sucks in the NHL. At best you give him easy minutes on the 4th line to provide a bit of offense.

Nah - a travesty would be not getting an opportunity to watch a line of Penner-Horvat-Kassian play together this season. That sounds dreamy.

Carol Schram: Vancouver Canucks: Linden on Air, Should Canucks Sign Dustin Penner?
As Trevor Linden prepares to take to the airwaves on Tuesday, musing on goal songs, game presentation and unrestricted free agents still available at bargain prices.

which fits Jim Benning's "meat and potatoes" approach. Penner has also played most of his hockey in the Pacific Division through his career.

- Carol Schram

If Penner played with an edge, I could see him fitting that approach, but he doesn't seem to initiate a lot of contact or seem hard to play against.

If he can be had for a reasonable price, then I guess you go for it. No real rush to get the youth in the lineup. I guess you could offer a contract and if a rookie does beat him out for a contract, then you put him on waivers and send him down or he gets plucked off the wire.

Speaking of waivers, there could be some interesting pick ups that could take place around the league at the beginning of next season. It looks like there are going to be a few teams trying to sneak under the cap.

Penner is still a useful bottom 6 guy or injury fill in for the 2nd line in a pinch, but amidst a rebuild(tool) you've got to go with youth, if only to see what you've got for the years to come when you'll actually be competitive.

Man, its a low risk signing. IF he can stay healthy, and in the right role, could put up decent numbers.

I hate to sound like a hipster but... that song is... so... mainstream...

Can we not just blast some Rammstein every time we score? If they played Du Hast after every goal I can guarantee people would be on their feet ready to invade Poland
