Agreed.
That said, based on how Murray has been operating with most of his other guys of late, I expect him to be trying to extend all three guys at minimum cost this summer, and I think MacArthur would be most likely to sign the deal first.
For him, I think he'd be happy to sign an extension onto his current deal this summer in the range of 3 years, 13.5 million (4.0, 4.5, 5.0).
Chances are it would be a wise move. |

I see Macarthur and Spezza signing long term deals. I am not as confident to say that with Ryan. While I think he will eventually sign here long term, I think he will weigh his options. Nothing wrong with that.
I see Spezza getting about 6ish million a year for about 5 or so years while Mac will probably get an average of about 4.5 million over about 4-5 years.
If we get Ryan inked, expect a giant deal. Especially if he has a career year next season.
I'd also add Marc Methot to this list as well. He has provided great leadership and solid play while arriving here. Some coaching issues aside, he is a great replacement for Phillips.
We have an excellent core right now. You do not mess with that unless a player decides they want out. We just have to fill in some of the loose ends. Which will be easy to do via free agency and through development. |

While we are talking about signings. This summer will have some interesting negotiations. Gryba, Lehner, and Phillips are all up for contract. To me, Lehner is the most interesting. I think everyone thought he'd get more games and play a bit better than he has so far this season. He has been touted as our next goalie for I don't know how long, but hasn't earned or had a chance to earn a large pay day. I think Murray is going to end up paying more for potential rather than what he has done, sort of like Cowen and Wiercioch. And we know how that worked out...

Given that the cap will go to $70M+ next year, and even more in 2015-2016 with the new Rogers deal, we are going to have to pay up for these guys. $70M/20 roster players is $3.5M each on average. I expect:
McArthur - 4 years @5M per
Ryan - 7 years @$7-$7.5M per
Spezza - 4 years @ $6M per |

I really hope this is Spezza's last season - he makes it difficult to cheer for the Sens. I'd prefer a leader with some work ethic and plays a complete game (not just a ppg guy who causes almost as many goals against as he does goals for).
He seems like the exact opposite style of player that both Maclean and Murray would chose as captain. |

How can such ardent fans of a team hate their own players so much, so consistently after making the playoffs in 16 of the last 17 years?
Detroit is the only team that can boast of more success over the same time period. I guess that's all Spezza's fault too, isn't it? What a bum...

Nobody is helping us out tonight unfortunately. Everyone who needs to lose is winning! I know there's still 25+ games remaining but tomorrow is a must win!!

Hamhuis?
Burrows ?(even though he's in a huge slump)
Bieksa? |

Just tell them to go out there and have fun (im assuming he's young), and that hard work can trump talent and good/bad records.

he's 11 .... a minor Peewee on a combined major/minor team ..... his favorite player is Gallagher - 'Rett' is the smallest kid in the league, but plays a PITA style of game.... his coach wishes the rest of them would play as hard as he does.
Anywho, they've been playing better, but have mustered only three ties this month..... you know what they say about ties eh...... kinda like kissin' your sister |

Bringing back Heater at the Dedline will only help Spezza
Heard they are offering Cowen for Havlat and a pick
Also hearing Kadri and Gardiner for Karoolson and Turris
What an awful trade for the Leafs! |

I thought the same thing. I never respond to any post unless it is part of a meaningful hockey discussion. But this one was actually so bad, you actually felt a bit sorry for the guy. |
