Looks like Pirri committed an unmentionable last night. He rode the bench after the second goal for the rest of the night.

Raanta looked better in his debut than I remember Crawford looking. Comfortable, tracking the puck, not losing his crease. His "header" of the deflected shot was pretty good. Very encouraging after the disaster of Khabiblowin.

Hawks also have 6-7 guys on pace for 20 goals, not including Bicks and Versteeg. Ad if Kane keeps this up, he'll win the Hart. His shot is so much better it helps him be more aggressive and really makes goaltenders have to respect both shot and pass. Awesome time to be a fan!

Happy Thanksgiving, HB family!

Yes, the score could have been greater. Sharp needs to convert. Also we dodged a huge bullet and we got some breaks - Sven had a wide wide open net, and hits the far post. It would have been a different game if that went in. Hawks still might have won though. Incredible defense in the 3rd, only 2 shots given up. Ya baby.

Raanta played well, happy for the kid.
Ya, the Keith Norris Trophy train is in the go mode. Keith did have a solid game.

a few other obsersations: Zus and Smith had good games. Smith is strong on the puck and usually makes the smart move. He did lose a few draws though, not sure what he ended up. But he was a hot streak there for a little.

That was where he lost his stick, right? Hopefully Q feels the point has been made and Pirri is ready to go this weekend. I really like the kid's game so far.

Excellent possession game - especially in the third - protected the new guy.

In keeping with the usual on-the-ledge tenor of this group: Q needs to make sure the lads don't start thinking they can just turn it on to win every game in the third: need good productive starts, too.

Smith only won one of five last night. The whole team didn't do very well at the dot. How much of that was a bad night and how much was the guy dropping the puck?

Kruger was 60% at the dot. (I'm pretty sure he's above .50 for the year, huge improvement!) and JT was 50%. Everyone else was below. Great team win, and Raanta acquitted himself better than well enough.

Anyone know what Pirri did to land in Q's doghouse?

Just a little reinforcement for the youngster; I doubt it is permanent. With Handzus back the team had five centers in the game last night, and Q was able to send a message to Pirri reinforcing the coach's mantra. I know it seems that the young guys are being picked on by Q, but I believe he is really just trying to instill a style of play and defensive responsibility on the young guys.

Happy Bird-Eating everyone. And thanks, Canada, for hockey!!

Don't know, obviously, but interesting play: there was a delayed call there on Seabrook for shoving Pirri's stick into Hudler's path.

True, but this is a much better topic of conversation than the one at the beginning of the year about blowing leads and being outscored in the 3rd period, remember?

According to NHL Stats, the breakdown of Hawks G/GA by period is:

1st: 22-18
2nd: 35-27
3rd: 35-24

So while the Hawks are winning each period, the biggest margin is in the 3rd. This is a good thing.

Happy T-Day to all.

Raanta looked solid and composed for a rookie. I like the way he moves in the net. He's got some quick reflexes and definitely kept the Hawks in the game early on. A+ first outing for Antti 2.0 which is really nice to see considering how bad of a move signing Khabi has been thus far.

Sharp was buzzing around the net again. Lots of missed opportunities for him last night, although the effort was there. He must have had two open net opportunities besides the goal he scored. Must have felt some serious relief when he finally did cash that one in. Sick play by Hossa who looked fantastic throughout the whole game. Amazing what he brings to the lineup as one player.

Kane looked unreal last night. Even before he scored that first goal he had just dazzled again with his hands and stickhandling, putting on a clinic as he has done so many times this season. What is his ceiling as a player? Has he reached it? What an exciting player to watch and he seems to still be improving. Scary.

We are spoiled as Hawks fans. With all the premium talent this team has in their top 6 like Toews, Hossa, Sharp and Kane it is easy to overlook the developing studs like Saad, Kruger and Shaw, who continue to improve and grow into their roles as well. Saad has those moments where he looks like a truly special player especially when you take his age into consideration.

Love watching this team, even though we are one of the more bipolar fanbases we all need to calm the hell down sometimes. This team is incredible.

Q did the same with Saad last year and Saad did not let it affect him in regards to his attitude. He did not sulk or pout and just came back harder the next game. Hopefully Pirri responds in the same fashion.

What I'm thankful for this year:

1. Two Cups in four years
2. The promise of potentially more to come
3. Toews for being one of the best in the league
4. Kane for having the best hands in the league
5. My family and friends
6. Hossa for being on everything in 3 zones
7. ....
