Yip

I know most people are saying not to trade our 1st overall pick in 2014 because it's obviously going to be a high pick because we're so bad. But what does that pick get us? Another D-man (more likely than a forward given our issues) that will take a few years to develop and not give us anything for the 2014-15 season. And assuming we don't trade any of the super kids, we'll be right back where we started next season, aside from any minor changes that won't suddenly make us a playoff team.

If I could trade the 1st overall (becuse it will be 1st overall) for a true top pairing D-man or some big 6'3 power forward that puts up 35 goals a season, I'd make that trade at this point.

It might be time to make the bold move MacT had envisioned.

I don't think you would get a lot for Dub at the moment...not with the season he is having.

Also, I have been saying for a few years, as many of you have been, that they didn't have enough to protect themselves from other teams. As for saying that people are running the skilled players, I'm not sure about that. They are playing them like they would play any other skilled forward. They shouldn't pull up on a hit(I mean clean ones) just because the guy is a highly skilled forward. This is hockey these guys are playing.

I think looking at trading to bring in some size as well as some good D would do you guys well.

I guess I am in the crazy optimism bunch. I've always felt that the game isn't over until the last buzzer goes and there is always a chance for the playoffs until they are mathematically eliminated. I don't want to watch a team just go through the motions and not play to the best of their abilities each and every game.

I dunno specifically.

It would take the form of:

one or both of Klefbom and the 2014 1st + roster player for bigtime defenseman + roster player that helps us more.

I am absolutely, completely (frank)ing sick and tired of watching the Oil poop the bed for high draft picks. I say play your asses off and see what comes of it. If we sink then so be it, and if we finish mid-pack and get a crappy draft pick then so be it. Its time the team and management took to the ice with some pride and gave us the fans something to cheer for.

painfully true. I'm not quite as ready to proclaim we're out of the playoffs, but unless we go on a decent winning streak before we have any more consecutive losses, we're done. that 43-26 could be changed to maybe 5-7 ot losses and still get it done. 40-23-6. relatively the same, but a little easier to achieve

mact either makes a bold move now or pretty much resigns himself to another lost season.
I realize none of us wanna make a bold move we might regret later, and maybe dealing a high profile player is far too reactionary, but I just feel like to sit on his hands and let another season go is a slap in the face to us kinda. there is absolutely no reason we need to be this bad for this long.

side note; u squeaked out a lucky tie against me garner. getting those 2 points back to even it up on sunday felt like the oilers blowing that late lead against the leafs. damn you!!!

"One game was all it took for many to believe that Richard Bachman could end up supplanting Dubnyk as the team’s starting goaltender, and when you look at all the current injuries to netminders around the league it might make some sense to dangle Dubnyk".

Good one Clouts...

good post.

id take missing the playoffs by a point and getting a mediocre pick over a lottery pick every day of the week

I understand the sentiment, but you are selling pretty low at this point.

You say that now... but trust me, the Leafs had a few seasons like that, and it is NOT better. You fail this year, and you don't even give yourself hope for the future.

I think, and I am sure this has been mentioned many times before, this team needs not only some grizzled playoff vets, but some nasty mean reliable players.

Unless youre willing to break up the super kids, then something has to give with the draft pick department.

I guess my question really is, if you were to bring, lets say 3, decent players in, with experience, then what does this do to the depth of the team?

You're already rolling a decent top 6, and short of buying out, or trading some trash off to Garth Snow, you must see the problem ahead. It'll be very hard without subtracting.

And how many fans have faith in Hall as a franchise player considering the amount of injures he's already faced? Keep in mind people figured Dipietro, Pascal Leclare, etc. would turn around bad fortune sooner or later.....

we've done the lottery picks and bottom 3rd finishes.. this would be a step forward and improvement towards the ultimate goal.
in the big scheme, much better for this team

now if we do that multiple years in a row, then yes, your point absolutely stands

At this point, I'd imagine we could get a pretty penny for the 2014 1st.

Taking jabs at a team, when the team you support is like a hockey version of desperate housewives?

As a fan, I'd rather be looking forward to McDavid, as opposed to talking about trading Lou for the world, then facepalming when Schnieder gets traded, only to say how awesome Lou was...

hall is an elite player. those others aren't.

as far as his face getting stepped on by a skate and a freak knee on knee, I don't know what to say about that. some will inexplicably call that injury prone because he's been injured before. I don't see how anyone, injury prone or not, could've changed those accidents

In this coming draft??..Anything u get back that helps the Oilers improve just kills the pick position in a very weak draft yr...The"pretty penny" doesn't exist in this yrs draft...
