Jeff Quirin: Porter Clears Waivers + Hockeybuzz - Blues FHL
- Jeff Quirin

Porter gets called up for a 10-12 injury, much like Aucoin and Andronov. Jaskin is a top 9 call up. Aucoin going on waivers early in the process doesn't really bode all that well for him and the difference between Porter and Andronov is that Porter knows Hitch's system.

Andronov gets called up as a result of great play at the AHL level and bad play by forwards at the NHL level (short term). Porter gets called up as a result of a middle to longer term injury.

In my mind, Porter is not in real competition with any of those players for NHL minutes unless he just stops trying...

Disclaimer::Boring lecture on careless e-mailery

Web crawlers can easily strip out e-mail addresses from web pages. There are all sorts of people out there who are interested in active e-mail addresses, mostly advertisers and various evil doer's.

Immediately you're opening yourself up to be bombarded by spam and advertising by anyone who's got a good crawler.

The whole other aspect has to do with your online profile. This is where the data miner's really try to piece together all they know about you from your public web presence.

essentially you've now associated your e-mail address with your HB account (for anyone or any robot that's read it so far). after they connect your e-mail to your account they can mine data from all your comments, figure out your favourite team and whatever else they can from what you've written on here.

so anyone who knows your e-mail (Mom, Lucy from Human Resources, the boss, anonymous, any website associated with that e-mail) can come and check in and see what you're up to on hockeybuzz. probably not a big deal really but if you associate the e-mail to a few more places (twitter,plentyoffish) all of a sudden your profile is really growing and they start filling in a few more gaps about who SteveaReno is, what are his likes, dislikes and how can he be taken advantage of. (If you're a little bit paranoid like myself you may worry about the malicious reasons someone would want your profile)

for people who are very active online (twitter, facebook, various forums) the library of data that can be built is like a life story. it's actually very cool but also very creepy. it all depends on how you feel about being on the record.

if you really want to minimize your profile, create a new e-mail address for just about every website that asks you for one. (i.e. [email protected], [email protected]) kind of a pain to keep track of them all but when you do this you have the added bonus of figuring out who's giving away your e-mail address. if you have an HB e-mail address that no one else knows about and you get spammed you'll know why.

send Jeff a personal message through hockeybuzz and you're e-mail address won't be available publicly, just Eklund and Jeff can spam you.
